The Payload Engineer defines and manages payload accommodations for reusable Earth-return vehicles, including structural, electrical, thermal, environmental, and interface requirements. Responsibilities include designing payload bays and hardware, authoring user guides and ICDs, verifying payload environments, supporting customer proposals and design reviews, and leading payload integration, testing, and recovery. The role establishes scalable payload integration processes and serves as the primary technical liaison for payload customers and external partners.

Designs and leads flight safety analyses for reusable reentry missions, including 3-DOF and 6-DOF trajectory simulations, Monte Carlo dispersion, breakup and debris modeling, risk assessments, and FAA Part 450 compliance. Defines deorbit targets, recovery zones, flight safety limits, and mission rules; authors licensing materials and interfaces with FAA-AST. Collaborates with GNC, aerothermal, structures, avionics, and operations teams while building and validating analysis software and supporting mission operations.

Own aerothermal environment definition for a reusable Earth-return vehicle across its flight envelope. Run high-enthalpy CFD, engineering heating methods, and custom solver extensions; integrate CFD, test data, and uncertainty margins into databases supporting TPS, structures, and trajectory design. Validate methods through analytical, wind tunnel, arc-jet, and flight data, automate environment delivery, and manage computing resources.

Own loads, structural dynamics, and multibody dynamics analyses for a reusable orbital logistics vehicle across launch, separation, reentry, landing, refurbishment, and reflight. Define dynamic environments, loads, requirements, and spectra; perform structural and multibody modeling; support test planning; correlate simulations with hardware and flight data; and guide cross-functional design decisions. The role requires strong aerospace dynamics expertise, coupled loads analysis, finite element tools, and experience with high-consequence flight hardware.

Own full-cycle recruiting for technical hardware and software roles: sourcing, screening, structured interviews, offers, and pre-onboarding. Partner with engineering and operations to forecast headcount, build pipelines, maintain ATS processes, ensure export-control compliance, calibrate compensation, and track hiring metrics. Support non-technical hires and campus/event outreach as needed.

Own Outpost’s earned media and editorial function, including proactive pitching, press operations, messaging, press materials, executive communications, social content, campaigns, and event support. Translate complex aerospace and deep-tech programs into compelling narratives for media, customers, investors, and government stakeholders. Track communications performance, support major company milestones, and collaborate with leadership, engineering, operations, and marketing.

Design and test electronic systems for spacecraft, including PCBAs and electrical harnesses, while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineers.

Outpost is hiring for various engineering roles focused on building spacecraft for returning payloads from orbit. The company seeks driven individuals for a rapid development environment and encourages general applications for future roles.

Own day-to-day accounting operations including bookkeeping, AP/AR, month-end and year-end close, reconciliations, variance analysis, audits, internal controls, payroll accounting, and financial systems optimization.

Lead company-wide marketing strategy and execution across commercial, civil, and national security markets.
