Pitch beats or generalist projects, pursue accountability reporting using data analysis and creative reporting techniques, produce both quick and long-form investigations, collaborate across the newsroom and with partner outlets, travel in-state as needed, and demonstrate a deep understanding of California and its diverse communities.

ProPublica’s Emerging Reporters Program awards five students $9,000 stipends, mentors, and a paid conference trip.
