Support manufacturing engineering teams developing and improving processes for spacecraft components and vehicles. Evaluate fabrication methods, create assembly and inspection processes, collaborate with design teams on reliable and cost-efficient hardware, and resolve technical issues. The intern will gain hands-on experience across machining, structures, propulsion, fabrication, and hardware development from design through build and test. This is a 12-week, on-site internship in Redondo Beach, California, with possible overtime.

Leads the vehicle engineering team responsible for the Mira spacecraft product line, including technical ownership, development, testing, integration, flight operations, sustainment, and continuous improvement. Connects propulsion, avionics, manufacturing, and integration teams to deliver recurring missions. Serves as the technical expert for spacecraft structures, mechanisms, pressure systems, and payload accommodations while managing customer and mission interfaces, mentoring engineers, and shaping the long-term product roadmap.

Lead design, implementation, and operation of infrastructure for integration, test, and engineering environments. Oversee networks, compute, storage, lab infrastructure, and platform engineering. Manage teams, enforce standards, drive IaC and automation, ensure availability and time-synchronized operations, coordinate test stand deployments and facility readiness, and maintain monitoring, incident response, and secure engineering data practices aligned with compliance and zero-trust requirements.

Design and own electrical interconnect systems and harness architectures for space vehicles from concept through production. Specify components, create schematics and production drawings, lead design reviews, develop assembly/verification procedures, and collaborate cross-functionally to meet environmental, reliability, and EMI/EMC constraints while supporting prototyping and multiple programs.

Own and develop end-to-end manufacturing processes for ceramic matrix composite flight hardware, including material selection, densification, joining, tooling, inspection, qualification, and production scaling. Partner with design, propulsion, materials, quality, technicians, and suppliers to improve producibility, resolve process escapes, establish controlled documentation, select capital equipment, and deliver repeatable rate production. Lead the CMC manufacturing roadmap and mentor engineers and technicians.

Lead opto-mechanical manufacturing across the company, including recruiting and mentoring engineers and technicians, designing production lines and alignment tooling, optimizing metrology and manufacturing processes, and establishing cleanroom and acceptance-testing capabilities. Collaborate with optical and mechanical design teams on manufacturability, DFM/DFA, and design reviews. Drive improvements in production rate, quality, reliability, and space-qualified hardware testing.

Designs, programs, commissions, and troubleshoots industrial machinery and control systems for R&D, testing, and production. Responsibilities include electrical and fluid schematics, PLC software in TwinCAT, industrial hardware selection, HMI development, safety compliance, risk assessments, and collaboration with end users, vendors, and manufacturers. The role requires ownership of equipment design from concept through commissioning and a flexible schedule with travel as needed.

Build and lead a precision cleaning organization supporting aerospace manufacturing. Develop standardized cleaning processes, SOPs, work instructions, equipment specifications, validation reports, training programs, and competency requirements. Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Design, and EHS to ensure safe, compliant, repeatable operations. Lead contamination control, FOD mitigation, equipment and infrastructure selection, lean improvement, staffing, and long-term departmental scaling.
