The Kairos Global Summit is taking place in Hollywood tonight, highlighting 50 young entrepreneurs who are taking on global issues with technology.

Now in its seventh year, the event will include a VIP demo day at the Warner Brothers Studios backlot and an after party at Avalon Hollywood.

All participants are 25 years or younger and will present their innovations to a group of global investors, industry mentors and corporate leaders. For the first time, the event will feature a $50,000 prize investment from San Francisco-based Obvious Ventures.

Of the 50 entrepreneurs competing, three are up-and-coming LA startups:

SPIDR Tech

Led by former LA county police officer Rahul Sidhu, SPIDR began creating a police intelligence platform to house officer-to-officer information and has now built a public-facing database called SPIDR Web. The platform will use GPS and dispatch data to create detailed, public reports for individual police officers. The company is currently working out of Techstars New York.

Hustle

This 4 month-old website helps people find part-time, consistent gigs. Led by LA-native Justin Boogaard, the company has been growing quickly, benefiting from Los Angeles' massive transient work force. Hustle only features jobs that pay between $18 to $25 an hour and Boogaard, along with his co-founder David Lung, are so adamant about the quality of work that they've tried most of the jobs themselves.

Local Roots

This LA startup is going vertical with the farm. Led by founders Jake Porter, Eric Ellestad, and Matt Vail, Local Roots is creating a network of cutting-edge indoor farms capable of growing the highest-quality, sustainable produce anywhere in the world. With new technologies that control seed development, soil nutrition, light and temperature the company plans to revolutionize farming and meet growing population needs.
