StartEngine to Demo Its ‘Disruptive’ Startups Tuesday

Tech accelerator StartEngine’s Demo Day Tuesday evening will include drinks, networking and, of course, demos from startups that are “disrupting large markets.”

Seven companies will be showcased at the event in front of investors and mentors, all of which are helping to achieve StartEngine’s mission of making LA “a top tech city,” StartEngine Coordinator John Conkle said.

The accelerator works towards this goal by attacking it from all angles: StartEngine provides about $20,000 of initial investment, office and collaboration space, access to classes, mentorship, legal service and pretty much any other service needed for startups to get off the ground.

At the end of the StartEngine experience, companies present to the community, just like these companies will Tuesday:

TruBrain is a “monthly box of brain support.” Yes, brain support. It’s a subscription-based service that provides blends of cognitive nutrition, curated monthly by top neuroscientists. The company, which was started by UCLA’s Andrew Hill, University of Geneva’s Cristoph Michel and CEO Chris Thompson, has taken in $8,000 in just its first month without any funds spent on ads, according to Conkle.

Rasberi Labs is a team consisting of Peter Chen and Ying-Ying Lin that originally came to StartEngine without a solid idea. StartEngine Co-chair Howard Marks helped the team link up with YouTube media company BigFrame and Robert    Downey Jr.’s company Team Downey for projects.

DreamSha.re has realized that .com domains are rare and expensive and is working to answer common questions from entrepreneurs like “How do you choose your domain? How do you buy in bulk? How do you keep track?” CEO Jon Bradford, CTO Josh Dolitsky and Designer-in-Residence Squid Buchanan are the brains that are causing DreamSha.re to disrupt how domains are selected.

Teams like these that are disrupting their markets, Conkle said, are exactly why StartEngine Demo Day is so exceptional.

“Demo Day is special; it doesn’t happen very often,” Conkle said. “It’s where our companies that have been working hard for the past four months on their products, refining their visions and getting users show off what they’ve accomplished.”
