LA in emojis: New keyboard lets Angelenos express themselves

Emojis aren't an addition to text conversations anymore. They've evolved into a language of their own.

This new emoji keyboard hopes to be the talk of LA.

Life In LA launched this week to give Angelenos a unique way to express themselves. From local food to famous landmarks, the app has over 50 emojis to best tell your LA story.

"I wanted to capture what living in LA is like, and I thought to myself, 'what better way to tell that story than with emojis?’" said creator Vicc Alexander. "There are so many ways you can represent an “LA idea” or landmark, but ultimately, you need to find the one that best clicks with your users. Although I didn’t grow up in the best of neighborhoods (2 blocks from MacArthur Park in Pico Union), I’ve been lucky enough to experience almost all of LA."

Alexander created the emoji keyboard from scratch while working on his other startup. In a week's time he was able to code the app and design each emoji before bringing his friends on board to help market the product.

But after seven days and 50 emojis, Alexander knows there are still plenty more ways to capture life in LA.

"Over time I plan on adding more emojis that capture this diversity, and possibly even create a way to allow users to add or create their own emojis."
