THE OPPORTUNITY

The VP, Analytics Engineering will lead the design and delivery of enterprise data products on the bank’s Data Foundation Platform. Reporting to the VP, Data Engineering & Delivery Manager, this hands-on, player-coach leadership role oversees a small team and works alongside engineers while partnering across the broader data organization and the business. This position combines deep hands-on expertise in Snowflake, dbt, and SQL with the ability to set standards, deliver quality data products, and develop talent in a SOX-controlled environment.

Performs all duties in accordance with the Company’s policies and procedures, all U.S. state and federal laws and regulations, wherein the Company operates.


HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Lead and work alongside a small team of Analytics Engineers, Data Architects, and Modelers; hire, coach, and develop talent.
  • Design, build, and deliver scalable data solutions hands-on using Snowflake, dbt, SQL, and Microsoft Azure.
  • Establish engineering standards for dbt, SQL, data modeling, documentation, version control, testing, and deployment.
  • Guide reusable dbt models, macros, and semantic models, and lead dimensional data modeling, including Star Schemas and Fact and Dimension tables.
  • Own the transformation and modeling layers of the platform.
  • Build quality into development through dbt tests, data contracts, documentation, and peer review, partnering with the Quality Engineering team, which owns enterprise test frameworks and release certification.
  • Champion agentic engineering across the team by applying AI coding agents and AI-assisted development tools to accelerate dbt model development, code generation, refactoring, and documentation, with governed human review.
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging agentic development patterns and tooling for the Analytics Engineering workflow, setting standards for the safe, auditable use of AI in a SOX-controlled environment, and partner with Quality Engineering, which owns the Agentic Test Harness.
  • Embed dbt tests and quality gates into Git-based CI/CD pipelines as part of standard development practice and support root-cause analysis of production data defects.
  • Optimize Snowflake performance and cost across query tuning, warehouse utilization, and transformation design.
  • Manage priorities, capacity, and delivery commitments, and partner with Product, BI, Governance, Operations & Quality, and the business.
  • Participate in interviewing and hiring decisions.
  • Prepare and deliver employee performance evaluations, goal planning, and counseling.
  • Manage, support, coach, and train employees.
  • Follow all established policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, Data Warehouse Development, or related roles.
  • 3+ years of experience leading technical teams, managing engineering delivery, and developing employees.
  • 4+ years of deep hands-on experience delivering enterprise data solutions using Snowflake, dbt, SQL, and Microsoft Azure.
  • 3+ years of advanced experience with production-grade dbt projects, including modular models, macros, testing, documentation, lineage, freshness, snapshots, and incremental processing.
  • 5+ years of experience in dimensional and relational modeling, data warehousing, Medallion Architecture, semantic models, and modern ELT.
  • Advanced SQL development, debugging, performance tuning, and query optimization skills.
  • Experience building well-tested, reliable data pipelines using dbt tests, data contracts, and data-quality checks as part of standard development practice.
  • Working knowledge of batch and CDC ingestion patterns using Azure Data Factory or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience with Python or another modern language for data processing, automation, APIs, and scripting.
  • Working knowledge of Azure Data Factory, ADLS Gen2, and Azure Synapse Analytics.
  • Experience with Git, Azure DevOps or comparable tools, CI/CD, pull requests, and automated quality gates.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, metadata, lineage, privacy, security, auditability, and regulatory controls.
  • Experience delivering data solutions in a SOX-controlled environment, including change management, control evidence, and audit support.
  • Ability to balance hands-on leadership, people management, delivery oversight, and strategic planning in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience leading Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, or Data Architecture in a regulated organization.
  • Banking or financial services experience, including loans, deposits, treasury products, customers, accounts, or regulatory reporting.
  • Experience applying agentic AI and AI-assisted development tools to accelerate engineering delivery, including establishing standards for governed, auditable use of AI in development workflows.
  • Experience with data-quality or observability tools such as dbt tests, Great Expectations, Soda, Monte Carlo, or comparable platforms.
  • Relevant Snowflake, dbt, Microsoft Azure, or comparable cloud data certifications.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

The base salary ultimately offered is determined through a review of education, industry experience, training, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant in alignment with market data and other factors.
