Kunai builds full-stack technology solutions for banks, credit and payment networks, infrastructure providers, and their customers. Together, we are changing the world’s relationship with financial services. At Kunai, we help our clients modernize, capitalize on emerging trends, and evolve their business for the coming decades by remaining tech-agnostic and human-centered.

Note: This role is hybrid in either NYC, San Francisco, or McLean, VA. In-office requirement is 2-3 days per week.

The UI and Visual Designer is an intermediate-level specialist role responsible for defining and executing the final aesthetic and visual integrity of the enterprise website. Reporting directly to the Leader of UX, this position sits at the intersection of brand strategy and front-end execution.

The primary focus is to translate established UX flows and wireframes into polished, development-ready high-fidelity mockups that strictly adhere to corporate brand standards. This designer will be a key guardian of the visual design system, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and optimal visual appeal across every breakpoint and user touchpoint to support effective digital and web marketing goals.

Responsibilities:

The UI and Visual Designer will focus on the creation, maintenance, and application of the visual design system to the production environment:

  • Visual Design Execution: Design the complete look and feel of the final digital product, including primary site navigation UI, global templates, and all core page outputs.
  • High-Fidelity Artifacts: Produce precise, pixel-perfect, and development-ready high-fidelity mockups and specifications for all intended screen sizes (mobile, tablet, and desktop).
  • Design System Maintenance: Develop, document, and maintain the front-end design system components, including the visual style guide, typography scales, iconography sets, and component library assets built upon the foundational platform.
  • Brand and Consistency: Ensure 100% adherence to brand standards, visual guidelines, and aesthetic consistency across all platform components and live site pages.
  • Usability & Responsiveness: Adapt visual designs across all breakpoints to maximize overall usability and visual appeal, preventing Cumulative Layout Shifts (CLS) and ensuring a fluid user experience.
  • Conversion and Interaction Optimization: Focus on optimizing the visual design of high-value interactions, such as form completion, lead capture, and purchase flows, to maximize conversion rates while maintaining brand integrity.
  • Accessibility (A11Y): Integrate and champion visual accessibility best practices, specifically related to color contrast, focus states, typography sizing, and semantic element design, to meet or exceed WCAG AA standards.
  • Collaboration: Act as the visual design liaison, partnering closely with product management, content strategists, and front-end developers to ensure smooth design handoffs and implementation.

Experience:

This is an intermediate role requiring a balance of hands-on execution and system-level thinking.

  • Experience level: 3 to 6 years of dedicated experience in a UI, Visual Design, or Digital Product Design role, preferably focused on large enterprise or B2B websites.
  • Technical proficiency: Expert proficiency in modern design and prototyping tools (e.g. Figma, Sketch) for design execution, component creation, and developer handoff.
  • Visual expertise: Deep and proven understanding of core visual design principles, including composition, color theory, space, and typography, with a strong portfolio showcasing application on live websites.
  • System design: Demonstrated experience developing, documenting, and maintaining a scalable visual design system or component library.
  • Accessibility: Strong demonstrable knowledge of web accessibility (WCAG) standards and best practices, specifically related to visual design elements.
  • Content and conversion design: Provide experience designing for content-right experiences and optimizing visual interactive specifically for lead generation and form interaction optimization.
  • Domain expertise (Plus): Prior experience with SaaS or software websites is a significant plus, including UI design for sales/partner enablement, customer support, customer self-service portals, technical documentation, developer resources, and privacy/compliance interactions (e.g. Cookie Controls and Trust Centers).
  • Web technology: Working knowledge of modern HTML, CSS (including Flexbox/Grid), and responsive design techniques sufficient to communicate clearly and effectively with engineering teams.
  • Deliverables: Proven ability to consistently deliver high-quality, pixel-perfect visual specifications and interactive prototypes.

Salary: $130,000-145,000 annually, commensurate on experience. This is a full-time salaried position with benefits.

Our success over the past 20 years is rooted in our exceptional team, which thrives in a culture of collaboration, creativity, and continuous learning.
We are proud to offer our employees a range of benefits, including competitive compensation, professional development opportunities, and flexible work arrangements, all designed to help them thrive. As we continue to expand, we remain committed to cultivating an environment where people feel valued, have a voice, and are given the tools to grow—both personally and professionally—while pushing the boundaries of innovation in the fintech industry.

Minimum Degree Required:

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
