Position Description

PIMCO is seeking an Analyst to join the Product Strategy Group. The Product Strategy Group serves as a bridge between investment expertise, business strategy, and client engagement across a broad range of PIMCO investment strategies. In this role, you will gain exposure to financial markets, product development, portfolio analysis, and client communication while partnering with colleagues across Portfolio Management, Client Management, Legal & Compliance, and other areas of the firm.

This is an entry-level opportunity designed for candidates beginning their careers in investment management. Analysts participate in a rotational-style coverage model that provides exposure to multiple product areas and investment strategies before transitioning into a primary strategy focus. Through this experience, Analysts develop a broad understanding of PIMCO's platform, investment capabilities, and client needs while building a strong foundation for long-term career growth.

Following the initial coverage period, Analysts are aligned to a designated strategy area based on business needs, individual strengths, and demonstrated interests.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Build deep command of PIMCO's investment process, portfolio positioning, and market outlook — enough to become the most credible advocate in the room for the strategies you cover
  • Represent the investment team internally: be a highly valued resource for Account Managers and Client Management on your assigned strategies, while building exposure across PIMCO's full platform
  • Own, alongside Portfolio Management and Marketing, a consistent suite of product and client-service materials, and actively seek out feedback to ensure ongoing quality and relevance
  • Develop a strong understanding of business, stakeholder and client needs and articulate business value and product intent to internal leadership.
  • Track the competition and bring a point of view to how we grow the platform
  • Apply and help develop AI-powered tools to improve the productivity and quality of recurring workflows
  • Construct attribution, performance, and risk reporting that shows how portfolios are positioned, and why they performed the way they did
  • Write market updates, portfolio commentary, and portfolio construction materials that clearly communicate PIMCO's investment views
  • Partner on RFPs and DDQs, drafting and reviewing content that represents our strategies accurately
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, Engineering, applied science, or another related discipline
  • Zero to two years of relevant experience; internship experience in investment management or alternatives is preferred
  • Strong mathematical, quantitative, and analytical abilities, with a detail-oriented skill set
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; reasonable proficiency with Bloomberg preferred
  • Demonstrated curiosity and experience using new and emerging technologies and AI tools to solve problems and drive better outcomes
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Intellectual curiosity, high energy, and a self-starter mindset
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with all levels of personnel both internally and externally; strong team player
  • Enthusiasm for the financial markets, investing, and macroeconomics
  • Interest in pursuing the CFA designation (or active status in the program) a plus

PIMCO follows a total compensation approach when rewarding employees which includes a base salary and a discretionary bonus. Base salary is the fixed component of compensation that is determined by core job responsibilities, relevant experience, internal level, and market factors. The discretionary bonus is used to award performance and therefore is determined by company, business, team, and individual performance.

Salary Range: $ 90,000.00 - $ 110,000.00

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
