Overview
Clocktower is building out the sales function for its Strategy, Research & Advisory business. The Director of Sales is a senior, client-facing seat, ideally based in a major financial hub. You will own new business for the offering and bring your own relationships with hedge funds and allocators from day one.
About Clocktower
Clocktower is an alternative asset management and advisory firm based in Santa Monica, with a global presence, including an office in Shanghai. In public markets, we seed macro-oriented hedge fund managers and manage an Asian equity platform. In private markets, we invest in fintech and Latin American startups. Several times a year we host global conferences bringing together our clients and partners, including sovereign wealth funds, tech founders, hedge fund managers, and successful individuals in creative niches. Clocktower’s edge is our network.
Clocktower Strategy, Research & Advisory
Clocktower Strategy, Research & Advisory is a macro concierge. We provide research and direct strategist access to hedge funds, allocators, banks, and corporates, covering the US, China, geopolitics, and fiscal and monetary policy, with bespoke work built around client questions and Clocktower’s world-class conferences and network attached. The offering stands on its own for both LPs and GPs.
About the Role
  • Business development. Originate and lead new business with senior decision-makers (CIOs, strategists, heads of research, portfolio managers), with support from our strategists, the CEO, and the wider Clocktower team.
  • Client coverage. Cover existing clients and onboard new ones, keep accounts engaged with the strategists, and lead renewals and upgrades.
  • Events. Bring the right prospects and clients to Clocktower conferences and dinners globally, and follow up afterward.
  • Fundraising. Support capital raising across Clocktower’s business lines.
Requirements
  • Experience in institutional sales, investor relations, or research sales, with a demonstrated network across hedge funds and allocators (CIOs, heads of research, portfolio managers, sovereign wealth funds, pensions, family offices).
  • A record of closing. You have sold research, advisory, or investment products to sophisticated institutional buyers and can point to the relationships and the revenue.
  • A genuine interest in markets and macro. You’ll be representing our strategists’ views to senior investors and need to hold your own in the conversation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication. Clear and direct.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly.
What you’ll get
  • Direct exposure to senior global investors. Our clients include sovereign wealth funds, pensions, endowments, large asset managers, and global macro hedge funds. You’ll speak and meet with them regularly.
  • Connectivity. You’ll report directly to the CEO and work closely with our strategists and business development teams, with support from our hedge fund team.
  • Runway. You are building a sales function alongside a research team that is actively publishing and already has paying clients.
  • Growth path. Build the book first, with the opportunity to build a team around it as the business scales.
  • Benefits. Health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K with matching, generous vacation, and sick leave.
  • Location and travel. Flexible location with a preference for a major financial hub. Regular national and international travel to clients, Clocktower events, and our Santa Monica office.
How to apply
Please submit an updated CV along with a short cover note (a few paragraphs) on why Clocktower, why macro research, and where your relationships are.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
