The Mission Enabling Products (MEP) Business Unit is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to shape and implement the BU’s operational strategy and program execution initiatives. This role will partner closely with the MEP BU Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Program Leadership, and Functional Leaders across multiple sites to design and implement data-driven strategies that enable production readiness, scalable execution, and a continuous improvement culture of operational excellence at our Southern CA facilities. This position may be located at Oxnard, CA, Goleta, CA, Commerce, CA or San Diego, CA with 15% travel to the various sites.
The Data Scientist - Level 4 will develop and apply advanced technical principles and lead the technical aspects of strategic initiatives to ensure cost, schedule, and quality objectives are met through advanced analytics, multi-disciplined leadership, and continuous improvement techniques. This individual will inform strategic planning, prioritize and execute high-impact initiatives, and institutionalize a data-driven decision-making culture to drive high performance while maintaining absolute quality.
Primary Responsibilities:
Own the full lifecycle (identify, plan, design, develop, implement, and maintain) of data visualization tools and dashboards, data entry solutions, and other automated analytics capabilities
Structure and facilitate recurring performance review meetings focused on metrics critical to strategy and execution for program management, engineering, and manufacturing/operations leadership
Coach and train stakeholders on data literacy and effective use of data, including how information flows within and between business systems (e.g., ERP, MES, planning/scheduling tools)
Lead data quality and cleanup efforts to support implementation of new or enhanced business systems
Translate complex data and analytics into clear, actionable insights tailored to audiences ranging from executive management to front-line leaders
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop data-driven strategies and implement continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field with 8 years of relevant data mining experience or Master’s degree with 6 years of relevant experience
Demonstrated proficiency with SQL and Tableau (or comparable BI/data visualization tools)
Hands-on experience working with multiple complex systems to ingest, process, store, analyze, and visualize data with experience identifying trends in large data sets
Proven experience facilitating cross-functional projects across all levels of an organization with the ability to translate complex concepts into practical, operational applications
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Information Technology, Data Science, Industrial engineering, or related field
Self-starter with demonstrated project management, problem-solving, statistical analysis, and data visualization skills
Demonstrated knowledge of data mining architectures, models and protocols
Demonstrated knowledge and application of Lean and Six Sigma principles, including Black Belt or Green Belt certification
Understanding of advanced descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analysis techniques and methodologies
Familiarity with manufacturing business systems such as ERP/MRP (e.g., SAP and Costpoint) or others (e.g., Solumina MES, TipQA) and tools (Power Apps/Automate, SharePoint)
