About the Company
Construction is a trillion dollar industry that still relies heavily on manual, paper-based processes.
The biggest bottleneck is cost estimation. Takeoffs are still largely done by hand — estimators spend days measuring and counting materials from drawings, and errors can be costly.
Bobyard automates construction takeoff with AI, using computer vision and NLP to read drawings faster and more accurately. We're a small team backed by Primary and Pear, and there's a lot of the product still to build.
Position Overview
Interface design matters a lot at Bobyard — we're asking customers to trust a fairly sophisticated tool, and your job is to make that feel simple. You'll work directly within the product team to shape how the platform looks and feels. You will:
Spend real time with customers: sit with estimators and PMs, understand their workflow and frustrations firsthand
Help shape product direction based on what you learn from users
Own design work end-to-end: prototype, test with users, iterate
Work closely with engineering — you'll be in Figma and involved in front-end details, not just handing off specs
Partner with marketing and sales to help communicate the product clearly
Help modernize parts of the existing platform — we want it to feel considered, not clunky
Desired Attributes
High ownership — comfortable taking a project from research through shipped design
Strong portfolio with real user research behind it
Fast learner — no construction background required, but you'll need to get up to speed
Comfortable in Figma and familiar enough with HTML/CSS to work closely with engineers
Genuine interest in solving problems for a technical/industrial audience
Benefits
Competitive salary plus equity options (target $100K–$140K)
Work closely with a small, collaborative team
This is a full-time, in-person role in SF. If you're excited about designing for a technical, high-stakes product and helping more of the industry go digital, we'd love to talk.
Comp Philosophy
We are proud to offer competitive, top-of-market compensation because we want to celebrate the dedicated people who ship amazing work and drive our success. Our individual compensation is thoughtfully tailored based on your role, experience, and contributions, alongside performance-based rewards.
