•  Coordinate system requirements, technical specifications, interfaces, and engineering deliverables across multidisciplinary teams.

•  Identify and resolve interoperability, interface, and performance issues between hardware, software, and existing infrastructure.

•  Maintain continuity across the entire systems engineering lifecycle, from initial requirements through operational handover.

Design Management & Technical Coordination

•  Coordinate design management activities, technical reviews, design submissions, revisions, and approvals.

•  Review engineering drawings, system diagrams, specifications, and technical documentation for consistency with project requirements.

•  Manage cross-discipline technical interfaces and collaborate with designers, contractors, and vendors to resolve constructability and integration issues.

•  Track design comments, action items, and changes to support timely and coordinated delivery.

Systems Testing, Commissioning & Delivery

•  Plan, coordinate, and participate in integration testing, verification and validation, formal acceptance testing, and commissioning activities.

•  Perform hands-on technical troubleshooting during system installation, testing, and deployment.

•  Coordinate test procedures, results, deficiencies, and corrective actions with the client and technical project partners.

•  Assess system performance and reliability, validate readiness for operation, and support final client acceptance and delivery.

Documentation & Configuration Management

•  Develop and maintain design documents, system specifications, interface records, requirements traceability matrices, and technical diagrams.

•  Manage system configuration records and support engineering change management throughout implementation.

•  Prepare clear progress reports, technical findings, and documentation of integration and test results.

Client Interface & Field Execution

•  Act as a hands-on technical interface for rail and transit agency stakeholders, translating client needs into coordinated engineering action.

•  Lead or support technical discussions, project meetings, design reviews, and vendor coordination.

•  Attend project site walks, field visits, inspections, and implementation activities to verify installation conditions and resolve field issues.

•  Provide technical guidance to junior engineering staff and contribute to risk identification and project delivery.

Minimum Qualifications

•  Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.

•  At least 5 years of relevant systems engineering, hardware/software integration, design coordination, or related technical engineering experience.

•  Experience with rail, transit, transportation infrastructure, or transportation technology projects.

•  Demonstrated design management experience, including design coordination, review cycles, technical interfaces, and multidisciplinary engineering deliverables.

•  Hands-on experience integrating and troubleshooting hardware and software, conducting systems testing, and supporting deployment.

•  Understanding of full lifecycle systems delivery: requirements, design, integration, testing, commissioning, deployment, and acceptance.

•  Experience interfacing directly with clients, engineering consultants, contractors, and technology vendors.

•  Ability to interpret system drawings, technical specifications, system diagrams, and test documentation.

•  Excellent analytical, communication, coordination, and technical problem-solving skills.

•  Ability to work onsite in Los Angeles Monday through Friday and participate in project site walks and field visits.

Key Competencies

•  Hands-on technical problem solver comfortable working with integrated hardware and software systems.

•  Proactive design coordinator who can connect engineering disciplines and close technical interface gaps.

•  Client-facing communicator able to explain complex issues and drive decisions with multiple stakeholders.

•  Delivery-focused engineer who follows technical systems from design to testing, commissioning, and acceptance.

Preferred Qualifications

•  Experience with CAD/AVL, fare collection, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), or transit communications systems.

•  Experience working directly with public rail and transit agencies on system modernization or capital programs.

•  Familiarity with electrical, communications, civil, and systems engineering interfaces.

•  Experience with factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, and operational readiness.

•  Knowledge of systems requirements management, interface control, configuration management, and verification/validation processes.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
