Fitt Insider breaks down the business of health and wellness for operators, executives, and investors. Through our content, newsletter, podcast, and research, we cover the companies, people, and developments shaping the industry’s future.

We’re building a more influential media platform for the health and wellness economy, and we’re looking for a reporter who can help us deliver timely, high-quality coverage every day.

The Role

We’re looking for a business-minded reporter with strong news instincts and excellent writing skills.

You’ll cover the latest developments across health, wellness, fitness, healthcare, and consumer health businesses—from funding announcements and company launches to executive moves, product innovation, acquisitions, and emerging industry trends.

You’ll develop sources, identify stories before they become obvious, conduct interviews, and turn breaking developments into clear, compelling articles. You should be comfortable moving quickly, but know the difference between simply reporting an announcement and finding the story behind it.

This is a hands-on reporting role for someone who follows the industry closely and wants to help define how it’s covered.

Responsibilities

  • Report the news: Write timely articles covering companies, funding, acquisitions, leadership changes, product launches, partnerships, research, and other important industry developments.

  • Own daily coverage: Help maintain a consistent publishing cadence by identifying, reporting, writing, and publishing stories throughout the week.

  • Break stories: Monitor industry sources, company announcements, regulatory developments, and emerging trends to identify news worth covering.

  • Develop sources: Build relationships with founders, executives, investors, operators, and other industry insiders who can provide information, context, and original perspectives.

  • Find the angle: Go beyond press releases to understand what happened, why it matters, and what it signals about the broader industry.

  • Pitch original stories: Proactively develop story ideas, follow leads, and pursue coverage that differentiates Fitt Insider from other publications.

  • Support distribution: Work with the editorial and creative teams to identify the strongest insights and angles from stories for newsletters and social content.

  • Maintain editorial standards: Verify facts, check sources, and ensure stories are accurate, clear, and published on deadline.

Qualifications

  • Roughly 2–5 years of reporting or writing experience at a publication, newsroom, trade outlet, or relevant media organization.

  • Excellent writing, interviewing, and research skills, with a track record of clear, compelling stories.

  • Experience developing sources and conducting original reporting.

  • Strong business curiosity and news judgment, with the ability to identify what matters to an industry audience.

  • Ability to publish consistently on deadline without compromising accuracy or quality.

  • Familiarity with digital publishing and the demands of a daily news cycle.

  • Interest in a hands-on, individual contributor role focused on reporting and writing.

  • Interest in health, wellness, fitness, healthcare, consumer brands, or technology. Direct experience covering health and wellness is preferred but not required.

What Success Looks Like

  • Consistent, high-quality daily reporting across the health and wellness economy.

  • A reliable pipeline of timely news, original stories, and interviews.

  • Stronger source relationships and more opportunities for original coverage.

  • Faster identification and publication of important industry developments.

  • Content that gives Fitt Insider readers a clear understanding of what’s happening across the market.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
