Job Description:

About the Role:

The Senior Financial Accounting Analyst is a skilled and proficient accounting professional who supports Disney Entertainment (DE) by delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial accounting for Disney+ content operations. This role applies accounting expertise in the areas of streaming content costs and intercompany licensing, while partnering closely with DTC finance, production accounting, Business Affairs, and Legal to ensure the integrity of the Disney+ P&L and Balance Sheet.

Responsibilities:

In this role, you will serve as the end-to-end content accountant for Disney+, ensuring accurate recording and reporting of all content-related costs and license fees. You will work independently to manage complex accounting activities across multiple cross-functional partners, drive issue resolution, and deliver clear financial analysis to leadership.

  • Support Disney+ content accounting activities and partner with DTC finance, production accounting, and business partners to research and resolve content accounting matters
  • Partner with DTC finance, sales administration, and content valuation teams to record fair market value license fees for all internal content licensed to Disney+
  • Act as primary cost accountant for Disney+, ensuring amortization, participation, and residual expenses are properly allocated to each business
  • Partner with DTC finance and production accounting teams to ensure proper estimated final costs (EFCs) for originally produced content are transferred to the Disney+ Balance Sheet, and record the downstream amortization expense
  • Account for Canadian DTC originals end-to-end, including partnering with DTC Finance, Business Affairs, and Legal from contract inception through payment, capitalization, and amortization
  • Manage all intercompany eliminations related to Disney+ content accounting
  • Prepare and present Disney+ P&L and Balance Sheet analysis, including variance analysis and key account reconciliations
  • Maintain in-depth working knowledge of the Media Morph system, overseeing creation and interfacing of all Disney+ transactions to SAP
  • Provide analytical support for ad hoc projects and requests from Finance or management

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of accounting processes, internal controls, and US GAAP as applied to content cost accounting and financial reporting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to research complex accounting issues, investigate variances, and support timely resolution across multiple stakeholder groups
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the broader Microsoft Office Suite, including the ability to prepare, analyze, and present financial data clearly and accurately
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex or technical accounting matters to a variety of finance and business stakeholders
  • Collaborative approach with strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships across DTC finance, production accounting, Business Affairs, Legal, and other cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance, manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, and act as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in accounting and/or financial reporting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA or CPA candidate, or other relevant professional certification
  • Experience with SAP or other enterprise accounting/reporting systems, including Media Morph or similar content accounting platforms
  • Entertainment industry experience, particularly in content cost accounting, production accounting, or DTC/streaming finance
  • Experience with intercompany accounting, content amortization, participation accounting, or fair value licensing

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
