A Little About Us

Our team is focused on accelerating growth across Yahoo's consumer portfolio by bringing together performance marketing, media, data science, and experimentation. We build the measurement, experimentation, and technical capabilities that help drive customer acquisition, engagement, and long-term growth.

Position Overview

Yahoo's Growth & Media team drives user acquisition, re-engagement, and monetization across one of the internet's largest consumer media portfolios, including Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports, and Yahoo News.

As Sr. Director of Performance Marketing, you will own the end-to-end performance marketing strategy spanning paid search, paid social, programmatic display, and emerging agentic-driven channels. You will lead a high-performing team, hold P&L accountability for a significant media budget, and establish the measurement frameworks that turn data into defensible business decisions. This is a pivotal role at the intersection of performance marketing, advanced analytics, and Yahoo's push into AI-powered marketing.

What You'll Do

  • Own the full-funnel performance marketing strategy for user acquisition and re-engagement across Yahoo's consumer product portfolio, with direct budget ownership across SEM, paid social, programmatic display, and emerging channels.

  • Build and scale the performance marketing function by hiring, developing, and leading a team of managers, channel specialists, and analysts.

  • Partner with Data Science & Experimentation to design and interpret incrementality tests, media mix models, and multi-touch attribution frameworks that sharpen budget allocation and demonstrate ROAS at scale.

  • Lead the adoption of agentic AI workflows, including automated bidding, AI-driven creative iteration, autonomous anomaly detection, and agent-assisted campaign management, to increase team velocity and campaign efficiency.

  • Establish rigorous reporting infrastructure and KPI frameworks (CAC, LTV, ROAS, incrementality) that surface actionable insights for VP and executive leadership on a regular cadence.

  • Work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Yahoo DSP teams to leverage first-party data and Yahoo's own agentic media-buying capabilities as a competitive in-house advantage.

  • Manage relationships with key platform partners and stay ahead of algorithm changes, product betas, and AI-driven buying innovations.

  • Develop and enforce channel playbooks, creative testing frameworks, and campaign governance standards that can scale across a growing team.

What You Bring

  • 12+ years in performance marketing, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role owning large teams and large media budgets.

  • Deep channel expertise across two or more of the following: SEM, paid social, programmatic display, or affiliate marketing, with a track record of full-funnel budget ownership and measurable growth outcomes.

  • Strong analytical foundation, including fluency in attribution models, incrementality testing, A/B experimentation, and data visualization tools, with the ability to pull and interpret data using SQL or business intelligence platforms.

  • Proven experience scaling performance marketing programs at a large consumer internet, media, or subscription-based company.

  • Hands-on familiarity with agentic AI marketing tools (automated campaign management, generative creative, AI-assisted optimization), or a clear track record of adopting emerging advertising technology.

  • Experience across leading demand-side platforms (DSPs) and digital advertising ecosystems.

  • Strong cross-functional leadership with the ability to align Marketing, Product, Engineering, and Data Science stakeholders around shared objectives.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex performance data into clear strategic narratives for executive audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at a media company, marketplace, or subscription product with first-party data assets.

  • Familiarity with Yahoo's product ecosystem and audiences, including Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports, and Yahoo News.

  • Experience using Yahoo DSP's agentic AI capabilities or other AI-native buying platforms.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means building a high-performing performance marketing function that helps Yahoo make smarter investment decisions and drive efficient customer growth. You'll strengthen measurement and experimentation across channels, improve marketing performance through data-driven decision making, and scale AI-powered capabilities where they create meaningful business impact.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
