We have an exciting and rewarding opportunity for you to take your software engineering career to the next level. Join a team where your contributions directly support the integrity of global financial transactions, and where innovation, collaboration, and growth are part of everyday work.

As a Software Engineer III at JPMorganChase within the Commercial & Investment Bank — Payments, Trust & Safety (Sanctions Screening) organization, you will serve as a seasoned member of an agile team, designing and delivering trusted, market-leading technology in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You will carry out critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas in support of the firm's business objectives — work that matters not just to the firm, but to the broader global financial community.

Job responsibilities

  • Execute software solutions across design, development, and technical troubleshooting, thinking beyond conventional approaches to break down complex problems and build scalable outcomes
  • Design and implement high-throughput, low-latency Java microservices using Spring Boot, with a focus on performance, resiliency, and maintainability supporting sanctions screening and Trust & Safety workflows
  • Build and maintain robust Java-based integrations (Java, J2EE, Spring Boot, PL/SQL) aligned with enterprise architecture standards and patterns
  • Drive microservices and event-driven messaging designs to support scalability, resiliency, and controlled processing of screening outcomes
  • Create secure, high-quality production code and maintain algorithms that run synchronously with appropriate systems
  • Leverage enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity — including code generation, refactoring, unit test creation, and documentation — while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards
  • Produce architecture and design artifacts for complex applications, ensuring design constraints are met throughout software code development
  • Gather, analyze, and develop visualizations and reporting from large, diverse data sets in service of continuous improvement of software applications and systems
  • Proactively identify hidden problems and patterns in data, using insights to drive improvements to coding hygiene and system architecture
  • Contribute to software engineering communities of practice and events that explore new and emerging technologies
  • Support application operational stability, including participation in on-call and production support rotations, and drive issue remediation through root-cause analysis and problem management

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 3+ years applied experience
  • Hands-on experience with Java and strong working knowledge of Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, and SQL/PL/SQL in production environments
  • Solid understanding of agile methodologies, including CI/CD, application resiliency, and security practices such as automated testing, static analysis, and vulnerability remediation
  • Practical experience with modern runtime and platform tooling such as Apache Tomcat, Jenkins, Sonar/SAST tooling, Selenium/BlazeMeter, Redis, UNIX, Helm charts, Kubernetes, AWS concepts, and MQ or equivalent messaging platforms
  • Hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability, including support and troubleshooting in distributed systems
  • Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large-scale environment using one or more modern programming languages and database querying languages
  • Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools for coding, test creation, troubleshooting, or documentation, with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security
  • Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations
  • Overall knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Familiarity with modern front-end technologies and JavaScript frameworks
  • Exposure to cloud technologies and cloud-native architectures, including containers, Kubernetes, and service-to-service communication patterns
  • Banking or financial services domain knowledge; familiarity with Sanctions Screening and/or Fircosoft is a plus

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
