As a Software Engineer II specializing in AkesoLIMS at Tempus, you will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of our Laboratory Information Management System. In this role, you will build and enhance software that supports laboratory operations, data management, workflow execution, and REST API development across both backend and frontend systems.
You will work closely with Laboratory staff and Project Management to gather requirements, translate laboratory workflows into technical solutions, and deliver reliable, scalable applications that improve efficiency and usability for end users.
Why we’re looking for you (required skills)
You have strong experience with C# and application development using ASP.NET and MVC.
You have experience developing REST APIs in C#, Python, or Node.js.
You have strong SQL Server skills and are comfortable writing, optimizing, and troubleshooting SQL queries and database objects.
You have front-end development experience using JavaScript and jQuery.
You have experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Claude to improve productivity, accelerate learning, and support software delivery.
You are comfortable contributing across both backend and frontend development.
You can work directly with Laboratory staff and Project Management to gather, clarify, and refine requirements.
You are able to translate operational and user needs into practical software solutions.
You’ve worked in collaborative environments and are comfortable iterating on features and enhancements with cross-functional partners.
You embrace GenAI tools in your day-to-day work to boost productivity, accelerate learning, and focus your energy on solving the most impactful problems.
Bonus points for
Knowledge of laboratory workflows.
Experience working with LIMS platforms or laboratory information systems.
Experience with Python.
Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environments.
Experience with additional AI tools for software development and prototyping.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain features for AkesoLIMS.
Build and support software across both the backend and frontend application stack.
Develop solutions using ASP.NET, MVC, C#, JavaScript, and jQuery.
Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs to support system integrations and application functionality.
Use AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Claude appropriately to improve development efficiency, code quality, and documentation.
Design and optimize database interactions in SQL Server.
Partner with Laboratory staff to understand workflows, pain points, and process requirements.
Collaborate with Project Management to define scope, requirements, priorities, and delivery plans.
Troubleshoot defects, support production issues, and improve system reliability and performance.
Contribute to technical documentation, code reviews, and development best practices.
