About the role

In the role of Social Media Manager, UCANZ, you will report to the Senior Manager, Community, UCANZ.

We are considering applicants for the locations of Los Angeles or Dallas.

We are seeking a strategic, creative, and highly adaptable Social Media Manager, UCANZ, to help lead our English-language UCANZ social media presence and support a broad range of social initiatives across announcements, community engagement, priority titles, audience development, and integrated marketing.

You will serve as a social media generalist, taking ownership of key workstreams while flexing across the team’s priorities as business and resourcing needs evolve. You will help shape social strategy and programming, lead cross-functional initiatives, develop audience-first content, and strengthen our engagement and community building among Crunchyroll fans. You will use fan conversation, trends, sentiment, and platform behavior to identify opportunities for meaningful engagement and inform our broader social strategy.

A key focus of this role will be identifying opportunities to reach and grow priority audience segments across UCANZ by leveraging audience insights, platform discovery, community partnerships, and culturally relevant content strategies.

You will also help scale the team through agency and external support, identifying where partners can add capacity or specialized expertise. You will help define agency needs and scopes, onboard and brief partners effectively, establish clear workflows and expectations, and ensure external teams are set up to deliver high-quality work.

You will be combining strong social and creative instincts with a community-first mindset and operational leadership. You understand fandom culture, know how to create meaningful connections between brands and fans, and can translate both audience insights and business priorities into compelling social ideas. You are equally comfortable developing content and engagement strategies, leading agency partners, collaborating across teams, and building the processes needed to execute effectively at scale.

Core Areas of Responsibility
  • Strategically shape social programming and the editorial calendar, identifying opportunities informed by fan insights, cultural and platform trends, performance, and business priorities.
  • Develop audience-first social concepts, campaigns, and platform-native content that bring Crunchyroll’s titles, brand, partnerships, and key initiatives to life for fans.
  • Develop organic social strategies to reach and grow priority audience segments across UCANZ to support broader membership growth objectives.
  • Lead community management and engagement strategy, identifying opportunities to participate in fan conversation, deepen engagement, and build stronger connections with Crunchyroll’s community.
  • Lead social support for assigned cross-functional initiatives, partnering with teams across Crunchyroll to translate broader marketing and business objectives into effective social strategies and executions.
  • Identify where agency or external support can add capacity or specialized expertise across content, community management, publishing, and social operations.
  • Oversee operational workflows across Social, agency partners, Brand Management, and licensors, helping ensure content approvals are efficiently routed, tracked, documented, and escalated when needed.
  • Use social performance and audience insights to evaluate effectiveness, identify learnings, and continually optimize social and community strategies.
  • Provide leadership and flexible coverage across social workstreams during major launches, tentpoles, high-volume periods, and shifting team priorities.
About You

We get excited about candidates, like you, because...

  • 5+ years of experience in social media, community, digital marketing, or a related field in the entertainment or another fandom-driven brand.
  • Experience working with entertainment IPs.
  • Experience developing social media strategy using strong creative and editorial instincts across content, programming, community engagement, and campaigns.
  • Experience developing organic social strategies to reach and grow distinct audience segments, with an understanding of platform discovery, content distribution, and community engagement.
  • Strong understanding of fandom and online communities and know how to turn fan conversation, trends, and audience behavior into engaging social opportunities.
  • Experience translating broader brand and business objectives into audience-first social strategies and executions while effectively navigating cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience working with agencies and external partners, from identifying support needs and developing briefs to onboarding and providing strategic direction.
  • Experience using performance insights to make decisions while managing multiple priorities, stakeholders, and approval processes.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
