Description

Imagine a place where every young person, regardless of their background or circumstances, has the opportunity to explore, grow, and thrive. A place where potential isn’t just recognized, but nurtured, empowering young people to become the leaders of tomorrow. At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica (SMBGC), we’re dedicated to turning this vision into reality, providing transformative experiences that help youth discover their strengths and achieve their dreams.

Reporting to the Manager of Playground Clubs, the Site Coordinator at one of our seven Elementary sites will serve as the on-site lead for SMBGC programming, driving youth engagement and enrollment, collaborating with school leadership, and supervising on-site youth development professionals.  Playground Club is a partnership with the City of Santa Monica and the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica provides safe, consistent after-school supervision at seven local SMMUSD elementary schools. We are open Monday through Friday from school dismissal until 5 p.m. on-site at your school. Programming is held outside.

The Site Coordinator is a dynamic, organized, community-focused leader responsible for club members' safety and well-being. This role requires strong administrative and organizational skills, as well as a passion for facilitating outdoor activities and play rooted in SEL. This role serves as the primary leader for site outreach and engagement with parents and the school community. The qualified candidate will have strong team leadership skills, a passion for youth development, and the ability to adapt programming to a unique school campus space.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Youth Development: Experience working directly with grades and developmental stages for 1st-5th grade, in a positive and engaging manner. This role teaches other staff how to facilitate Boys & Girls Club curriculum, leverage tech and online curriculum in unique settings like a playground, and lead trauma-informed programming rooted in principles of social/emotional learning.
  • Program Design & Oversight: This role will collaborate with the Manager of Playground Clubs to design, plan, and implement quality, high-yield after-school activities in an outdoor setting. Success requires the ability to solicit youth input, plan and lead engaging play-based activities, and increase youth retention in after-school programming. Must be creative, leverage technology, adaptable to school-specific needs, and human-centered.
  • Program oversight includes supervising 2-3 Youth Development Professional staff, including scheduling, training, team meetings, and learning and development opportunities. Additionally, this position will partner with senior leadership to ensure safety protocols and practices are in place to ensure the physical, emotional, and environmental safety of the youth we serve. The Site Coordinator will manage site supplies, materials, snacks, tech, and equipment, ensuring appropriate resources are used to deliver an exceptional program experience for club members.
  • Build Community & Connection: Foster relationships with school leadership and parents. The Site Coordinator must establish a strong partnership with school administration and support shared goals to increase engagement among youth who remain on campus after school. Standardize site-specific communications and share resources and opportunities SMBGC offers with parents and the community. This role will collaborate with other senior leaders to align all elementary school programs.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
