Title: Senior Transportation Specialist

Location: Syracuse metro region or Onondaga County, New York

Please Note: Employment for this position is contingent upon contract-related approvals. Candidates selected for hire should anticipate a potential start date in the September–November 2026 timeframe.

We are looking for a Senior Transportation Specialist who is excited to help communities, employers, and organizations expand access to cleaner, more flexible transportation options. In this role, you will support targeted outreach, data analysis, presentations, reporting, and project strategy—primarily for projects in New York State, with opportunities to contribute to work in other states or at the federal level. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who brings curiosity, initiative, and a strong interest in sustainable transportation and mobility along with the confidence to build relationships and share new ideas.

This full-time position will ideally reside within the Syracuse metro region or Onondaga County, New York (other locations will be considered). The schedule will tentatively start off as work-from-home but there will likely be an expectation to eventually be in an office location for 2-3 days a week. You may have to travel to surrounding counties for meetings and events. Events may happen during the daytime or occasional/infrequent evening and/or weekend hours throughout the year. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support transportation demand management (TDM), transportation planning, sustainable mobility, data analysis, and program evaluation projects.
  • Conduct research and market analysis on transportation modes, technologies, policies, and programs.
  • Develop technical reports, planning documents, guidebooks, training materials, and outreach products for varied audiences.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, stakeholders, and community partners.
  • Work with a diverse set of clients and adapt communication and work styles to meet client needs.
  • Facilitate and support meetings, workshops, presentations, and outreach events.
  • Provide technical assistance, communications support, and implementation support for sustainable mobility programs.
  • Track schedules, deliverables, proposals, and related project activities to support strong project organization.
  • Meet with prospective clients around New York State, including Metropolitan Planning Organizations, the Department of State, and other public-sector partners.
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite to support project documentation, analysis, communication, and reporting.

This position requires experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Community engagement experience with stakeholders and community-based organizations.
  • Transportation planning and programs relating to public transportation, microtransit, and micromobility.
  • Hosting or supporting presentations, events, and meetings with clients or stakeholders.
  • Utilizing data, technological tools, training workshops, and innovative techniques to promote participation in programs.
  • Collaborate with a project team and client to achieve established goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in geography, sustainability, transportation planning, urban planning, policy, or related field +5 years of experience or Masters +2 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of transportation demand management, public transportation, microtransit, micromobility, sustainable mobility, and emerging mobility strategies.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, synthesize findings, and connect research to practical recommendations in a concise way.
  • Strong and demonstrated written communication skills, including the ability to be a key contributor in proposals, reports, summaries, outreach materials, and client-facing deliverables.
  • Experience translating technical information for diverse audiences, including public agencies, stakeholders, and community partners.
  • Strong facilitation, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience supporting meetings, workshops, interviews, and outreach events.
  • Excellent organizational and project coordination skills, including the ability to manage deadlines, track deliverables, and support multiple assignments at once.
  • Collaborative working style with the ability to contribute effectively to multidisciplinary teams and maintain positive client relationships.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with survey tools, mapping tools, data visualization, or project management platforms is a plus.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$74,090.00 - $125,954.00
