Who we are

Neros is a defense technology company rebuilding America’s drone industrial base. We design and manufacture high-performance unmanned systems that are tested in combat, iterated at startup speed, and built at massive scale. Our team culture is fast, hands-on, and obsessed with closing the gap between design and deployment.

As drones transform the character of warfare, Neros is delivering the systems the West needs to compete on the modern battlefield and deter the adversaries of democracy. We’re hiring engineers, operators, and builders who want to move fast, take on extreme ownership, and get capability into the hands of warfighters in months, not years.

What you will be doing

As the Senior Technical Writer & Content Manager, you will own the documentation that enables operators to successfully deploy and use Neros systems in real-world environments. You will translate complex drone systems into clear, concise guidance that warfighters and partners can rely on in the field. As part of this role, you will also build and maintain an internal knowledge base that functions as a source of truth on product specs and positioning.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain operator-facing documentation including user manuals, quick start guides, troubleshooting guides, system specifications, and release notes
  • Define, structure, and continually maintain an internal knowledge base on Neros’ products, including building the process flows for content audit and SME rosters
  • Identify ways to improve how documentation is created, updated, versioned, and distributed so that updates can be released quickly alongside new hardware and software features
  • Draft diagrams, workflows, and system explanations
  • The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys simplifying complex technical systems, thinks from the perspective of the operator, and takes ownership of ensuring that documentation keeps pace with product development

You should have the following

  • 5+ years of experience in technical writing, preferably supporting hardware products, robotics, aerospace, or defense systems
  • Proven ability to create clear, operator-focused documentation such as user manuals, quick start guides, troubleshooting guides, and system documentation
  • Proven experience building knowledge management programs and content architecture from scratch, then scaling them in a high growth startup environment
  • Experience drafting, publishing, and organizing technical content in content management systems with both internal and external users
  • Experience writing release notes and product change documentation for software or hardware updates
  • Strong ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise language for non-engineer users
  • Experience collaborating with engineering teams, product teams, and support organizations to gather information and document system behavior
  • Experience maintaining product specifications and versioned documentation as products evolve
  • Ability to independently interview subject matter experts and extract the information needed to build accurate documentation
  • Familiarity with documentation workflows and tools, including version control, documentation platforms, or knowledge base systems
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple documentation projects and product releases simultaneously
  • High attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, reliable documentation for mission-critical systems

Nice to have

  • Experience writing documentation for drone systems, robotics, aviation, or other complex hardware systems
  • Familiarity with FPV drones and unmanned systems
  • Experience producing field-ready documentation formats such as quick-reference cards, checklists, and laminated operator guides
  • Experience collaborating with designers to create diagrams and technical illustrations
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator or other diagramming tools
  • Background working with military operators or defense-related products
  • Experience designing documentation workflows and systems that improve update speed and documentation maintainability
  • Experience supporting documentation for rapidly evolving products in startup environments

US Salary Range

$100,000 - $145,000 USD

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations. Highly competitive equity grants are considered part of Neros' total compensation package.

We’re an equal opportunity employer. We welcome all applicants without attention to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
