What You’ll Do:

  • Strategic Execution: Responsible for quarterly planning and the successful delivery of multiple components or modules. You will break down high-level goals into clear, measurable milestones while navigating resource constraints and technical risks.

  • Active Technical Leadership: Dedicate time to hands-on coding and code reviews while providing high-level guidance to ensure teams produce maintainable, high-quality designs. You will use telemetry and data to identify problems early and assess technical feasibility and trade-offs (quality vs. time-to-market).

  • Product Sense & Advocacy: Partner deeply with Product Management to understand customer pain points and the product vision. You will analyze product metrics to identify areas for improvement and advocate for user needs throughout the development lifecycle.

  • Team Scaling & Culture: Manage, mentor, and grow multiple squads of high-caliber engineers. You are responsible for hiring the right talent and fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Operational Excellence: Lead effective sprint ceremonies (daily standups, planning, demos) where you have direct squad responsibilities, ensuring a high bar of execution and delivery towards business outcomes.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Advanced Management Experience: Proven track record of managing engineering teams and scaling impact beyond a single team or component.

  • Strong C# Proficiency: Proven expertise with modern C# development. We are looking for leaders whose current or very recent role involves active, hands-on coding and the ability to contribute meaningfully to deep technical discussions.

  • Microservices & Architecture: Extensive experience designing and maintaining resilient, scalable solutions built on a microservice architecture (Docker/Kubernetes). You should be adept at managing technical debt and ensuring long-term scalability.

  • SaaS Expertise: Deep experience developing and deploying large-scale, high-availability SaaS applications with a focus on data-driven decision-making.

Our Thorough Technical Interview Process

Our interview process is designed to be a comprehensive assessment of the deep, hands-on technical skills essential for this Player-Coach role. We transparently share our stages so you can prepare effectively:

1. CP1 (Code Pairing)

Live coding session with an engineer solving a core coding prompt in C# in real-time (coding, compiling, solving).

2. CP2 (Code Pairing)

Live coding session, same format. Increased complexity coding prompt focused on deep C# language knowledge and problem-solving.

3. CP3 (System Design)

Whiteboard session and knowledge deep dive. Assessing expertise in distributed systems, scalability, and microservice architecture.

4. Final Round

Interview with People Business Partner. Leadership philosophy, management experience, culture fit, and soft skills.

A successful candidate will demonstrate the required level of proficiency in both 90-minute Code Pairing sessions in C# and the System Design session. If you are an Engineering Manager ready to lead through technical excellence and maintain an active coding practice in C#, we encourage you to explore this opportunity with ServiceTitan!

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
