Bring Customer Insight into the Products We Build

At Fieldpiece, we build professional HVACR tools and instruments that technicians rely on every day. As we continue to grow, we’re investing in an even deeper understanding of our customers - what they need today, where their work is changing, and which opportunities should shape the products we develop next.  A privately held, global company named one of the Best Places to Work in Southern California for four consecutive years, we hire talented people who want to make an impact while growing their careers.

We're looking for a Senior Manager, Consumer & Market Insights, to bring that understanding into the heart of our product strategy.  Embedded within our Upstream Marketing team, you'll be an individual contributor responsible for leading customer and market research that influences new product development, portfolio strategy, and major business decisions. You’ll use data gathered internally and externally to go beyond reporting what customers say to uncover the underlying needs, behaviors, pain points, and opportunities that should guide where we invest and innovate.  If have excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills, a deep background in gathering consumer insights, and are energized by getting close to customers, finding the insight others miss, and seeing your research directly influence real products and business decisions, we'd love to hear from you.

You can be in our Orange, CA (Tustin in 2028) or Park City, UT (Heber City in 2027) office.  This role follows a hybrid work schedule, with employees typically working onsite three days per week. Additional in-office days may be required from time to time for onboarding, training, team meetings, project collaboration, or other business needs.  Travel is expected up to 30%.

What You'll Do

  • Own the research roadmap and schedule across multiple product categories.
  • Lead complex market intelligence and strategic research from business question through recommendation.
  • Determine the right methodology and execution approach - in-house, outsourced, or a combination.
  • Design and conduct qualitative and quantitative research, including surveys, interviews, segmentation, KANO, conjoint/MaxDiff, pricing, customer journey, and job mapping.
  • Analyze and synthesize data into actionable insights and executive-ready presentations.
  • Identify, build relationships with, and manage external research firms, contractors, and specialized partners.
  • Scope and oversee outsourced studies, ensuring quality, rigor, and useful deliverables.
  • Mentor an internal team member and build broader research capabilities.
  • Partner across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Strategy, and other teams to influence product and portfolio decisions.
Qualifications

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Market Research, Business, Economics, Psychology, Statistics, Data Analytics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 12+ years in market intelligence, market research, consumer/customer insights, or strategic research, including complex research programs for physical, technical products.
  • Deep expertise in qualitative and quantitative research and selecting the right methodology for the business question.
  • Experience combining primary research with product analytics, CRM, sales data, or Voice of Customer programs.
  • Hands-on experience designing studies, conducting research, analyzing data, and presenting recommendations.
  • Experience with segmentation, KANO, conjoint/MaxDiff, pricing research, customer journey mapping, and job mapping.
  • Strong experience identifying, selecting, and managing outside research firms and contractors, ideally with an established industry network.
  • Ability to balance internal research with outsourced studies and specialized expertise.
  • Strong analytical, PowerPoint, presentation, and data-storytelling skills.
  • Experience managing multiple research initiatives and mentoring or developing others.
  • Advanced experience with segmentation, conjoint, MaxDiff, pricing research, willingness-to-pay, or market sizing.

iEven Better If You Have

  • Experience with Jobs to be Done (JTBD).
  • Experience with Qualtrics or Sawtooth.

What Success Looks Like

You'll help ensure we understand who our customers are, which problems matter most, how their needs are changing, and where the strongest opportunities exist. Most importantly, those insights will become part of product and portfolio decisions early - helping shape what we build rather than simply validating decisions after they've already been made.

Why You'll Enjoy Working at Fieldpiece

  • As a privately held company, we invest for the long term—in our people, our products, and our future. That means we can focus on innovation, continuous improvement, and building lasting careers rather than chasing short-term results.
  • Work alongside talented, collaborative teammates who are passionate about innovation and solving real world problems.
  • Make a meaningful impact with a company where your ideas are heard, your expertise is valued, and your contributions help shape the future of our products and business.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
