Senior Manager, Business Analysis

Location: Pittsburgh, PA (Hybrid)

Classification: Exempt

Status: Full-Time

Reports to: Director, Informatics

Purpose

The Sr. Manager, Business Analysis leads the Business Analysis track within the Informatics function, building and operating the enterprise Business Analyst practice that translates business and operational needs into structured, complete, and testable requirements for IT delivery. This role unifies Business Analysts joining from multiple organizational homes under shared methodology, standards, and leadership, and is responsible for making requirements quality a consistent, measurable discipline across all IT delivery workstreams. The Sr. Manager, Business Analysis works in close partnership with the Sr. Manager, Product and the Sr. Manager, Clinical Informatics to ensure requirements are well-formed before work enters delivery, and with the Director, Informatics to align business analysis capacity with portfolio priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and enforces business analysis methodology standards: requirements elicitation, documentation templates, process modeling, user story quality, and requirements traceability across all IT delivery workstreams.
  • Unifies Business Analysts joining from previously separate organizations into a single practice with shared standards, tooling, working norms, and quality benchmarks.
  • Builds and matures the Business Analyst practice: hiring profiles, career frameworks, onboarding, individual development plans, and performance management as the practice scales.
  • Partners closely with the Sr. Manager, Product to create a seamless requirements-to-delivery handoff: Business Analysts elicit and structure requirements; Product Owners translate them into well-formed, prioritized delivery artifacts.
  • Partners with the Sr. Manager, Clinical Informatics to ensure clinical and operational domain knowledge is accurately captured in requirements for clinical system workstreams.
  • Supports the joint Acceptance-Criteria-to-Test-Case handoff standard with the Quality Assurance function; ensures requirements are documented with the precision QA needs to execute against directly.
  • Manages Business Analyst assignments across delivery workstreams, including Software Development, Data & Analytics, and IT Infrastructure, balancing analyst capacity against portfolio priorities in collaboration with the Director, Informatics.
  • Establishes quality benchmarks and review cadences for requirements artifacts; serves as the escalation point for requirements ambiguity, completeness disputes, and analysis quality issues within the delivery pipeline.
  • Participates in intake, prioritization, and delivery ceremonies across IT workstreams to ensure business analysis is embedded in how IT delivers.
  • Develops and coaches Business Analysts on elicitation techniques, documentation precision, stakeholder management, and writing requirements that are directly consumable by Product, engineering, and QA.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive business analysis experience, including at least 3 years in a people management or team lead capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing or maturing a Business Analyst practice, including developing methodology standards, documentation templates, quality benchmarks, and career frameworks.
  • Deep familiarity with requirements methodology: elicitation techniques, user stories, acceptance criteria standards, process modeling, and definition of done frameworks.
  • Proven ability to unify and lead teams assembled from previously separate organizations, each with their own working norms, tooling, and reporting history.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with Product, QA, and engineering functions to produce requirements that are both business-meaningful and technically executable.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills; comfortable engaging both technical delivery teams and non-technical business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare, specialty pharmacy, or regulated industry experience, with exposure to clinical or operational data environments.
  • IIBA certification (CBAP, CCBA) or equivalent business analysis certification.
  • Familiarity with ASTQB/ISTQB concepts sufficient to review acceptance criteria that are directly executable as QA test cases.
  • Experience supporting data and analytics workstreams: data requirements, source-to-target mapping, or data product specifications.
  • Experience with requirements and delivery tooling (Azure DevOps, Jira, Smartsheet, or equivalent).
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
