LITIGATION LEGAL SECRETARY | PLAINTIFF PERSONAL INJURY

Location: Irvine, CA | Full-Time, In-Office | $75K + DOE

We are a busy, fast-paced plaintiff personal injury firm in Irvine looking for a highly experienced litigation legal assistant to run the desk for our litigation team. This is a fully in-office position with heavy deposition and discovery work on significant cases, along with trial exposure.

You'll support 2–3 attorneys on a caseload of approximately 55 active cases, with new matters, settlements, and trials constantly moving through the pipeline. You'll work alongside 1–2 paralegals who provide additional support to the team. This role offers real autonomy: we want someone who will take ownership of the desk, help lead the team, and grow the role in the direction they want.

This is not an entry-level position. We need someone who can finalize and serve a high volume of work product every day while keeping the team organized and on deadline.

WHY TORKLAW?

At TORKLAW, you’ll work alongside a supportive and team-oriented group that values clear communication, dependability, and mutual respect. Your work will have a meaningful impact as you help support attorneys, paralegals, and clients throughout every stage of the litigation process.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a Senior Ligation Legal Assistant, you will support litigation personal injury cases from inception through settlement. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Run the desk independently and help lead the team in staying organized
  • Manage calendaring of all court, discovery, and trial-related deadlines
  • Format, finalize, file, and serve pleadings, motions, and discovery daily
  • Prepare law and motion documents, including captions, tables of contents, and tables of authorities
  • Schedule and coordinate depositions, hearings, and other case events
  • Assist with trial preparation as needed
  • Ensure compliance with the Code of Civil Procedure, California Rules of Court, and local rules

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 5+ years of experience as a legal assistant at a civil litigation firm (plaintiff or defense personal injury strongly preferred)
  • Proven experience with court-related calendaring and deadline management
  • Substantive law and motion experience, including formatting captions, TOCs, and TOAs
  • Strong working knowledge of the CCP, Rules of Court, and local rules
  • Fast, accurate typing (65+ WPM)
  • Experience with e-filing and electronic service
  • Ability to thrive in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
  • Trial experience preferred

Please do not apply unless you have at least 5 years of experience at a fast-paced civil litigation firm. Applications that do not meet these requirements will not be considered.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
