Position Overview:

Provides a secure and safe environment that allows patients, visitors, physicians, personnel and volunteers to deliver or receive quality services with minimal threats against their personal well-being and property. Is responsible for patrolling and monitoring facility premises, observing and reporting suspicious and unauthorized activities, and unsafe conditions. Is responsible for access control, control of keys and emergency response and notification. Renders assistance and security related services to staff, physicians, patients, and visitors, including monitoring and restraining violent patients. Documents incidents relative to the facility and coordinates with local law enforcement agencies.

EDUCATION:

  • HS Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

  • PSO - Proprietary Private Security Officer

REGULATORY TRAINING REQUIREMENTS (CALIFORNIA BSIS) to be verified by hiring manager:

  • 8 hours Power to Arrest and Use of Force
  • 16 hours within 30 days
  • 16 hours within 6 months
  • Total 40 hours initial training
  • 8 hours annual refresher

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 year recent relevant experience

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • General knowledge of the usual duty requirements of a security officer with an emphasis on the physical and emotional maturity required for the high degree of judgment and diplomacy necessary to work efficiently in a healthcare environment.
  • Must present as approachable, open, professional, and positive.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow established procedures and respond effectively to routine and emergent situations.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and the ability to interact respectfully with diverse patient, visitor, and staff populations.
  • Ability to write incident reports and read business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables, in situations where limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Pay Range is $30.35 to $42.48 / hour

The compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled. Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs. Base pay is only one component of Sutter Health’s comprehensive total rewards program. Eligible positions also include a comprehensive benefits package.
