As a Software Engineer III – SAP S/4HANA ABAP Engineer at JPMorganChase within Corporate Technology, you will design, build, and support enterprise SAP S/4HANA solutions and user experiences that help the firm run efficiently and securely. You’ll contribute across delivery and production support, partnering closely with product, engineering, and operations teams to deliver scalable enhancements and stable services.

Job responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support SAP S/4HANA solutions across enhancements, re-engineering, and Level 3 production support ownership.
  • Build and deploy SAPUI5 and Fiori applications, including role, catalog, and group configuration and governed extensions.
  • Develop and consume OData services and implement RESTful and SOAP APIs for SAP-to-SAP and SAP-to-non-SAP integrations.
  • Engineer reusable ABAP components using object-oriented ABAP, modular design, and reusable services and objects.
  • Implement modern ABAP on HANA patterns using Core Data Services (CDS) views, ABAP Managed Database Procedures (AMDP), and performance-optimized SQL approaches where appropriate.
  • Apply clean code practices through reviews, static analysis (for example, ABAP Test Cockpit), and performance tuning for critical workloads.
  • Drive test automation and quality practices, including unit and integration testing and regression automation.
  • Leverages enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity across complex deliverables (e.g., code generation/refactoring, unit test creation, documentation), while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards; contributes learnings and reusable patterns to improve broader team effectiveness.
  • Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.

 

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 3+ years applied experience
  • Strong hands-on experience delivering SAP ABAP solutions in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong SAP S/4HANA development experience with HANA-aware design, including CDS-based data modeling and performance tuning concepts.
  • Experience designing and consuming OData services and building REST and SOAP integrations.
  • Hands-on experience developing and deploying SAPUI5 and Fiori applications.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery teams with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, learn quickly, and deliver outcomes with minimal supervision, including ownership of Level 3 production support.
  • Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment (e.g., for coding, test creation, troubleshooting, or documentation) with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; ability to guide peers on safe and effective usage within team practices.

 

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience supporting at least one SAP S/4HANA implementation (greenfield or brownfield) and modern extensibility approaches aligned to clean core principles.
  • Experience building services using the RESTful ABAP Programming Model (RAP) and developing Fiori applications aligned to RAP patterns.
  • Experience with SAP Business Technology Platform capabilities, such as ABAP Cloud, SAP Business Application Studio, and SAP Integration Suite (including API-led connectivity patterns).
  • Familiarity with cloud delivery and operations practices, including logging and monitoring, transport and release management, and deployment automation to support DevOps goals.
  • Experience with automated testing practices and frameworks (for example, ABAP Unit, test doubles, and regression automation).
  • Exposure to SAP-related artificial intelligence capabilities or applied AI use cases within SAP delivery workflows.
