Safety Manager

Location: Long Beach, CA

City Light & Power (CLP) is a company at the forefront of the modern-day electric utility industry. We are a Subcontractor for a major utility provider in Southern California. At CLP, Operations & Maintenance, we provide the best service, and we know that starts with the quality and professionalism of our workforce. CLP is growing, and we're seeking a professional, experienced Quality Control / Quality Assurance (QC/QA) Specialist to join our team in Long Beach, CA.

About the Job:

The Safety Manager serves as the primary safety leader responsible for overseeing City Light & Power (CLP) field operations performed on Southern California Edison (SCE) property, municipalities, and other utilities. This position partners closely with Operations, General Foremen, Superintendents, Director, customer representatives, and field employees to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with all regulatory requirements, customer standards, and company policies.

The Safety Manager is expected to maintain a highly visible field presence, providing leadership, coaching, mentoring, and oversight of crews performing high-risk electrical distribution and substation construction activities. This role promotes a proactive safety culture through observation, education, accountability, incident prevention, and continuous improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage maintenance and implementation of safety programs, compliance plans, and initiatives at all locations.
  • Present as a visible leader, influencing, and motivating while displaying the highest standards of CLP EH&S
  • Conducts safety training as part of orientation activities with field crews and employees on safety requirements and expectations.
  • Promote CLP's Safety-First culture through visible leadership and positive employee engagement.Upholds the core safety values of the organization.
  • Enforces safety standards, conducts safety audits, participates in client safety meetings or conference calls, as needed; conveys information from specific clients about their specific safety requirements on a specific job site or client's work.
  • Proactively suggests safety improvements, process improvements, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep people safe in all facets of work
  • Assists with investigations of incidents, injuries, damage to property, or other safety-related concerns
  • Establish and maintain relationships as necessary with local and/or client safety personnel and other external resources as necessary to foster good communication between the Company and external organizations.
  • Promote CLP's Safety-First culture through visible leadership and positive employee engagement.
  • Auditing field crews for safety procedure adherence and documenting in the organization’s Safety Management System.
  • Analyze safety performance metrics and leading indicators.
  • Recommend improvements to safety programs and field processes.
  • Resolve SCE customer claims and damages.
  • Conduct periodic quality reviews of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), tailboard briefings, and human performance tools.
  • Partner with Operations to identify crews or individuals requiring targeted coaching based on leading indicators.
  • Monitor compliance with SCE contractor requirements, including vehicle safety, traffic control, third-party crane, environmental protection, and public safety.
  • Review Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) potential work before execution and verify that critical controls are in place.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, Health and Safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in a safety-related role in heavy civil construction or the utility industry.
  • Prior experience leading safety meetings, conducting training, developing training schedules, and materials.
  • Utility High Voltage safety experience preferred.
  • Journeyman Lineman experience preferred.
  • Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office Products.
  • Proficient in effective email correspondence, creating safety-related communications (bulletins, alerts, etc.).
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Must have excellent organizational, verbal, written, and communication skills.
  • Must be a team player and able to work with various partners from start to finish.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all reasonable conditions.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance:

  • You must be able to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Utility Provider Security Clearance is required for this position.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range is between $110,000 - $160,000
    • We reserve the right to pay more or less than the posted salary range based on factors unrelated to sex.
