We’re looking for a Restoration Specialist to join our PCGS team to help maintain our industry-leading reputation for coin authentication, grading, and restoration. In this role, you’ll apply deep expertise in modern U.S. and international coins, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and preservation quality in our grading and restoration processes.
You’ll report to the Modern Coin Grading Lead and work from our Santa Ana office.
What You’ll Do:
Review, authenticate, and assess the condition, originality, and overall quality of modern coins submitted for grading and encapsulation
Assign grades to modern coins using the PCGS grading scale and standards, with a focus on precision and consistency
Conduct restoration procedures and conservation treatments to preserve, stabilize, or improve coins in accordance with PCGS policies and ethical guidelines
Detect and identify a broad range of coin issues, including signs of damage, cleaning, alteration, or counterfeit characteristics, applying advanced diagnostic methods
Document grades and restoration actions, providing clear explanations or notations when relevant
Maintain individual production goals while ensuring high-quality grading and restoration output
Collaborate with grading and restoration team members to achieve operational targets and maintain consistency across all evaluated coins
Continuously improve expertise through numismatic research, restoration skill-building, and professional development
Complete additional coin processing, evaluation, or restoration duties as assigned by grading and restoration leadership.
Who You Are:
Extensive firsthand knowledge of modern collectible coins, their varieties, minting characteristics, and market standards
Hands-on experience or formal training in coin restoration, conservation techniques, and best practices
Demonstrated ability to accurately detect and diagnose alterations, cleaning, repairs, environmental damage, or counterfeit indicators in modern coinage
Familiarity with up-to-date authentication and restoration technologies/tools
Personal education or significant work history in the field of numismatics or coin collecting
Effective problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills to maximize productivity and meet team goals
Strong attention to detail and ability to focus for prolonged periods
Integrity, discretion, and a commitment to professionalism and collaborative teamwork
High school or equivalent education background preferred or equivalent work experience.
Hourly Rate: The reasonable estimated hourly rate for this position is $28-$33. Actual compensation varies based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including location, job level, prior experience and skill set.
