About this role

We are looking to add a Physical Security Engineer III to our growing Information Technology department. As our Physical Security Engineer III, you will serve as the senior technical authority for Riot's physical security program, owning the architecture, integration, and lifecycle of the Genetec platform and related systems across all sites.

This is a senior, high-ownership role for someone who can set technical direction for the physical security program, lead complex multi-site implementations, mentor junior engineers, and represent the team in audit and compliance discussions - while remaining hands-on with the most complex technical issues.

This position will be based in our Austin office. Relocation assistance is available for non-local candidates.

What you’ll be doing

  • Own the end-to-end technical architecture and roadmap for Riot's physical security systems across all sites, including the Genetec platform and its integrations.
  • Lead client consultation, planning, design, implementation, and support for complex Physical Security System projects.
  • Serve as the senior subject matter expert (SME) for the Genetec system, acting as the escalation point for the most complex hardware and software issues.
  • Lead the design and implementation of video surveillance, access control, sensors, air quality control, and third-party integrations for new and expanding sites.
  • Build and own API-level integrations between security platforms and business systems.
  • Lead commissioning processes across multiple sites, ensuring thorough documentation and final sign-off.
  • Own and continuously improve operational standards, procedures, and training for the physical security team; ensure adherence through training and communication.
  • Represent the team in audit and compliance inquiries (e.g., SOC 2), maintaining accurate documentation of standards and controls.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Physical Security Engineer I and II staff.
  • Manage vendor relationships, licensing strategy, firmware roadmaps, manufacturer escalations, and RMAs at a program level.
  • Proactively identify and escalate operational and security risks before they impact the business.
  • Partner with Network, Security, and IT leadership to align physical security architecture with broader cybersecurity and network security practices.
  • Lead evaluation of new physical security technologies and platforms, and advise leadership on strategic investments.

What you’ll have

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, networking, or a related field, or equivalent years of experience.
  • 8+ years of experience with install, operation, and maintenance of physical security technology systems.
  • Demonstrated experience operating under SOC-2 (or similar) controls and owning audit evidence.
  • Strong network and server knowledge.
  • Experience leading projects or mentoring junior technical staff preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of the Genetec portfolio and integrated physical security ecosystems.
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity and network security practices as they relate to physical security systems.
  • Proven ability to lead complex, multi-site physical security implementations and migrations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: Base range (commensurate with experience) + bonus + sign-on equity grant.
  • Long-Term Growth: Eligible to participate in Riot’s equity incentive programs and share in the success you help build.
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan: Incudes a generous company match.
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Multiple medical plan options, including 100% company-paid plans.
  • Wellness & Lifestyle Perks: Enjoy free gym memberships, pet insurance, childcare discounts, and more to support your life both in and out of work.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
