About the Role:

Reporting to the Senior Director, People Business Partnerships, you will partner directly with R&D leadership to build a scalable organization while positively impacting the day-to-day experiences of our people. This is an opportunity to have a direct impact on the effectiveness of the organization by driving people retention programs and providing guidance to leaders across the company. In this role, you will cultivate strong performance and engagement, coach managers, enable clear team communication and feedback, and drive organizational plans that deliver on business goals.

What You’ll Do:

  • You will develop trusted relationships with managers to create strategy and drive organizational change across R&D
  • You will support leaders through core People processes, such as annual compensation reviews, growth reviews, and our ongoing focus on managing performance
  • You will provide training and mentorship to leadership in an ongoing effort to maintain a positive employee experience that offers challenging yet fulfilling work and a clear path for professional development
  • You will help managers address performance issues early and – where necessary – navigate more complex employee relations matters that arise, conducting effective, thorough, and objective investigations when needed
  • You will evaluate and recommend changes surrounding performance management, employee relations, career/leadership development, compensation, and retention
  • You will develop programs and processes supporting the learning, career growth, and mobility aspirations of employees
  • You will analyze trends and metrics to develop solutions, programs, and policies
  • You will provide HR policy recommendations, guidance, and interpretation
  • You will drive diversity practices to foster an inclusive, supportive environment
  • You will provide strategic direction for the People Business Partner team
  • Because what you do profoundly impacts the day-to-day working lives of people at AlphaSense, you will play a critical role both in shaping our culture and in influencing how people experience what it’s like to work here– whether they feel valued, trusted, heard, and cared about

Who You Are:

  • You have 8-10+ years experience in HR, including meaningful time in a dedicated People Business Partner role supporting large, complex, operationally intensive organizations — you've done this work at scale and know how to hit the ground running
  • You have experience supporting R&D functions
  • You thrive in high-volume, fast-paced environments — R&D moves quickly. You are energized by complexity and pace, not overwhelmed by it. You have managed large manager populations before and know how to prioritize without letting anything important fall through
  • You have a proven strong foundation and knowledge of principles & practice of HR, including employment law & compliance requirements
  • You have a proven ability to effectively coach employees and management through complex and difficult issues, including making recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues
  • You have experience working with globally diverse teams
  • You have the ability to deal with ambiguity and thrive in an unstructured environment
  • You are a team player who acts with a sense of urgency and adapts to a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • You have strong ethics, demonstrated discretion, and sound judgment while working with sensitive and confidential information
  • You have a proactive attitude with a desire to continuously learn and grow while helping others do the same
  • You are a strong communicator with the ability to drive organizational change through partnership with People & leadership teams
  • You are obsessed with retention by way of creating sustainable, scalable organizations with best in class coaching, leadership, and career mobility
  • You are highly empathetic and build trust by being warm and demanding
  • You have the ability to analyze and interpret data, using it to help business leaders better understand workforce needs and incorporate results into workforce strategy and planning
  • You have the ability to facilitate discussions around change and transformation, identifying in advance where and when change management will be needed and proactively participating in developing plans
  • You operate with a strong customer service attitude toward employees and managers

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
