Dir. of Underwriting & Risk Management
We’re seeking a persistent and inquisitive individual to take ownership of underwriting and risk management within the SimplePractice platform. You will implement and manage all aspects of preventing, detecting, and managing fraud and financial risk related to payment processing on our platform.
You will play a critical role in working with our product, engineering, finance and security teams to deliver a great experience for our customers while protecting SimplePractice from financial losses. Not only will you develop policies and processes to underwrite, approve, onboard and monitor merchants for SimplePractice online payments, you will also develop systems, tools and methods for detecting fraud. You will be responsible for day-to-day risk management, including monitoring the platform for credit risk and fraud. Over time, you will build and manage a small team of skilled underwriting and risk specialists.
Responsibilities:
- Own fraud prevention and the KYC process
- Create and own end-to-end processes for underwriting, approving and on-boarding new merchants
- Own and constantly iterate on fraud detection systems and tools
- Collaborate with our Product, Engineering, Compliance, and Finance teams to develop automated tools and processes to minimize manual activities and reviews, driving operational efficiency as the business scales
- Own loss investigations and recovery efforts
- Reach out directly to merchants to investigate and discuss concerns
- Develop and own underwriting guidelines, systems, and tools
- Develop and document our underwriting and credit risk policies for our online payments
- Work with the Product development team and our payment processing partners to implement smart, customer-centric platform enhancements to mitigate risk
- Manage cardholder and customer disputes related to payment processing
- Constantly monitor customer accounts to find anomalous or suspicious activity
- Work directly with card and ACH processors, banks, and law enforcement as needed to recover and prevent losses
- Manage insurance policies
- Define a set of KPIs and performance metrics
You have:
- At least 5 years of experience leading underwriting and risk management in a high velocity electronic payment environment
- The highest level of integrity and ethical character
- A forward looking perspective and manage for future risks as well as present risks
- A curiosity for identifying patterns and solving puzzles that reveal suspicious behavior
- A dogged nature and work tirelessly to develop techniques and tools for fraud detection, prevention, monitoring, and risk management
- Experience managing risk for a software company which uses Stripe as its processor is highly desirable
- CFE and CAMS certification is a plus
