Provide periodic technical advisory oversight to ensure the long-term sustainability and performance of a mission-driven early childhood education application.

Organization: Confidential client in the non-profit/education sector; the name will be shared with shortlisted candidates before the client interview
Location: Remote - open to candidates in Lebanon, Jordan, or the wider MENA region (with strong Arabic/English fluency)
Role Type: Fixed term | Consultant-contractor | Part-time (~7 working days over 10 months)
Reports to: Head of Education, Lebanon

The opportunity

Our client is an international organization using theatre and play to support mental health and drive social justice across the Levant. They are seeking a Mobile and Web Application Support Consultant to provide technical oversight of their proprietary digital application, which transforms early childhood teaching and learning through play. In this role, you will act as a technical advisor rather than a developer, collaborating with the contracted software development company to guide maintenance priorities, assess vendor performance against contractual commitments, and help deliver strategic recommendations for the app’s long-term health and scalability.

About the organization

Our client is an award-winning NGO that has reached over 213,000 people in the last decade, winning recognition including the Digital Innovation of the Year prize at the 2025 PIEoneer Awards. The current focus is on ensuring their trilingual educational app—a bank of songs, games, and classroom management techniques for teachers of 3-8 year olds—continues to function efficiently for the least-resourced schools it serves..

What you will do

  • Periodically review the application’s overall functionality, performance, and stability to advise the client on its technical health without conducting continuous monitoring.
  • Act as a technical advisor in dealings with the external software development company, advising on their performance against contractual maintenance and support commitments.
  • Participate in periodic coordination meetings with the developer to guide discussions on technical priorities and issue resolution.
  • Advise on forward-looking maintenance plans and provide strategic recommendations on technical decisions related to the app’s long-term sustainability.
  • Prepare periodic advisory notes summarizing findings, vendor performance, and high-level guidance on whether delivered fixes meet expectations.

What you bring

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate with external software development vendors and oversee application support processes, shown through 5–7 years of experience in software quality assurance, application support, or technical project coordination.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience working specifically with mobile applications and knowledge of software testing methodologies and bug tracking tools.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills to clearly articulate technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Fluency in both English and Arabic.

Helpful, but not essential

  • Prior experience working within the NGO sector or on educational technology projects.
  • Familiarity with the specific tech stack used by the contracted software development company.
  • Experience in regional digital inclusion or early childhood education initiatives.

How the engagement works

Contracting party
You will contract directly with Apricot, which will manage contracting, invoicing/payroll, payments, and administrative support. Day to day, you will work with the client's education team and report to the Head of Education in Lebanon. For this consultant engagement, your work will be based on the agreed scope and deliverables, totaling approximately 7 working days spread over 10 months (2026-2027). You are expected to provide your own laptop and basic equipment, maintain reliable connectivity, and follow required security controls. Planned check-ins are scheduled for month 1 and month 3 to see how the engagement is working and help address any issues.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
