Job Description:

Parsons is seeking a Mid-Level QA Automation Test Engineer to join our Mission Solutions modeling and simulation development team. You will help ensure the quality, reliability, and usability of a modern application that integrates intelligence-informed, medium- to high-fidelity threat system models into a wargame simulation environment supporting a critical national defense mission.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Collaborate with developers, systems engineers, and stakeholders to understand requirements and define test plans, test cases, and acceptance criteria.
  • Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated tests using TypeScript, Playwright, Cucumber, and Gherkin.
  • Build end-to-end, functional, integration, and regression test coverage for a React and TypeScript application.
  • Create reusable automation frameworks, fixtures, utilities, test data, and reporting components.
  • Test web and Electron-based workflows, including navigation, forms, dialogs, tables, validation, accessibility, error handling, window behavior, and file access.
  • Validate Cesium-based geospatial capabilities, including map navigation, terrain, imagery, layers, entity interactions, visualization, and coordinate-based workflows.
  • Maintain BDD feature files and TypeScript step definitions with traceability to system requirements.
  • Analyze test results, troubleshoot failures, and distinguish application defects from test automation or environmental issues.
  • Document defects clearly and collaborate with developers through resolution and verification.
  • Conduct exploratory and risk-based testing to identify usability issues, edge cases, and defects not covered by automation.
  • Support regression testing, release qualification, and continuous improvement of test execution and reporting.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and improve test stability, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and peer reviews, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, standups, demonstrations, retrospectives, and reviews of test artifacts and automation code.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior QA engineers and contribute to team-wide QA standards, processes, and testing methodologies.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance up to Top Secret/SCI, which Parsons may sponsor and/or maintain.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field and 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance, software testing, test automation, or a related engineering role. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong understanding of software testing principles, methodologies, and the software development lifecycle.
  • Professional experience with TypeScript or JavaScript and an automated testing framework such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or a comparable tool.
  • Experience developing and maintaining automated UI, end-to-end, functional, and regression tests.
  • Experience with Cucumber, Gherkin, or other behavior-driven development practices.
  • Experience testing React applications or comparable component-based user interfaces.
  • Experience creating and executing test cases, analyzing results, reporting defects, and maintaining traceability to requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, debugging, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an Agile development environment.
  • Ability to learn and test complex software systems in technical, mission-focused environments.

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • Experience designing or extending automation frameworks using TypeScript, Playwright, and Cucumber/Gherkin.
  • Experience testing complex React workflows and Material UI components.
  • Experience testing Electron desktop applications, including window behavior, application configuration, file access, or packaging.
  • Familiarity with Vite or similar modern frontend build tools.
  • Experience with Cesium, geographic information systems, virtual globes, mapping applications, or other geospatial interfaces.
  • Experience testing map-based capabilities such as panning, zooming, layer visibility, entity selection, terrain, imagery, dynamic visualization, and coordinate workflows.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or a comparable platform.
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative source-control workflows.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Azure DevOps, GitLab, or other test management and defect-tracking tools.
  • Experience with Python and/or C++.
  • Familiarity with modeling and simulation systems or mission-support applications.
  • Windows and/or Linux experience, including basic networking and system troubleshooting.
  • Experience mentoring junior test engineers or contributing to QA standards and process improvements.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
