This is a high-visibility senior role that sits at the intersection of people management, resource optimization, and business growth — serving as the critical link between field operations, project delivery, and business development.
The right candidate will bring direct, hands-on experience in construction management, particularly in aviation, public infrastructure, or utility projects, and will combine technical fluency with strong leadership and organizational skills. This role directly impacts company performance, staff retention, client satisfaction, and revenue growth.
The ideal candidate will have a deep background in large-scale system integration within an active airport environment and possess strong knowledge of construction management practices, stakeholder coordination, and advanced aviation technology systems.
Key Responsibilities:

Field Staff Leadership
  • Serve as the primary advocate and point of contact for all field staff assigned to client projects across Southern California and beyond
  • Oversee staff placement decisions, ensuring alignment between employee qualifications, project requirements, and client expectations
  • Build and maintain relationships with on-site client management, serving as the liaison between KDG staff and client leadership
  • Conduct regular field check-ins to assess morale, workload, and satisfaction; proactively identify and resolve employee relations matters
  • Review and approve timesheets, ensuring accuracy, prevailing wage compliance, and alignment with project billing structures
  • Champion professional development, certifications, and career advancement opportunities for field employees
  • Support the performance management process, including goal-setting, mid-year reviews, and annual evaluations
Resource Management & Project Staffing
  • Maintain a real-time understanding of all active project staffing needs, employee availability, and resource utilization across the company
  • Develop and manage a resource allocation strategy that balances workload, client satisfaction, project profitability, and capacity for growth
  • Maintain forward-looking staffing projections to anticipate transitions, ramp-ups, and coverage gaps before they impact active engagements
  • Track and report on key staffing metrics including utilization rates, bench time, project coverage ratios, and revenue per field employee
  • Understand billing structures and contract terms for each engagement and ensure staffing decisions align with billing realities and margin goals
Recruiting & Business Development Support
  • Collaborate closely with recruiting and business development leaders to define staffing needs and prioritize open positions based on pipeline urgency
  • Participate in candidate evaluation, including technical screening and assessment of field qualifications and certifications
  • Partner with proposal teams to project staffing requirements for new pursuits, ensuring KDG can credibly commit to staffing plans
  • Provide input on go/no-go decisions based on current and projected staffing capacity
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline; equivalent experience considered
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in construction management, civil engineering, or a closely related field, with direct exposure to aviation, public infrastructure, or utility projects
  • Demonstrated understanding of construction management practices, QA/QC processes, and field documentation requirements
  • Prior experience in a staffing, operations, or resource management capacity with direct responsibility for employee oversight or placement
  • Working knowledge of prevailing wage requirements, multi-state employment regulations, and public sector contracting norms
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple staff, projects, and competing priorities simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to engage effectively with field staff, clients, and executive leadership
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with staffing or workforce management tools a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting proposal development and business development in a professional services or construction consulting firm
  • Familiarity with Owner's Representative and Professional Services delivery for public infrastructure clients
  • PMP, CCM, or other relevant construction management certifications

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
