Job Responsibilities:

1st Shift working in the North, reporting to EHS

JOB SUMMARY:

The Product Recycler at Magna Engineered Glass is responsible for sorting & preparing cardboard and recyclable materials for shipment from the North Plant recycling area. This position plays a key role in maintaining housekeeping standards, maximizing recycling efficiency, and reducing waste disposal costs by ensuring cardboard is properly processed and separated from non-recyclable and other recyclable materials. This position formally reports to the EHS Manager but takes daily direction from the production team.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:`

  • Break down cardboard boxes, pallets and packaging materials for recycling.
  • Remove and separate metal, plastic, foam, wood and other non-cardboard materials.
  • Utilize hand tools such as a screw gun / drill, hammer, and a pry bar (crowbar) to disassemble packaging materials and containers.
  • Organize and stack cardboard into dense, stable and space-efficient loads for recycling pickup and transportation.
  • Organize and prepare other recyclables such as metals, plastics, etc. into space efficient loads for recycling pickup and transportation.
  • Prepare recycling trailers, containers and staging areas for material loading.
  • Inspect recyclable materials for contamination and ensure proper segregation of materials.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe recycling work area.
  • Assist with movement of cardboard and recyclable materials using designated equipment as authorized.
  • Monitor recycling accumulation levels and communicate pickup needs and concerns to appropriate people.
  • Support plant housekeeping initiatives and recycling programs.
  • Follow all environmental, health and safety requirements.
  • Report unsafe conditions, equipment defects, spills or incidents immediately.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
  • Actively contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment, demonstrating flexibility to adapt to evolving business needs and priorities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous manufacturing, warehouse, recycling or material handling experience preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate basic hand tools, including:
    • Cordless screwgun/drill
    • Hammer
    • Pry bar/crowbar
  • Ability to identify and separate recyclable materials
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to keep own situational awareness a top priority
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Basic understanding of workplace safety requirements
  • Knowledge of safety standards and protocols in manufacturing environments.
  • English proficiency required, with strong verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prolonged standing at least 8 hours, but up to 12 hours per day
  • Conduct work in compliance with the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) regulations and ISO45001 Occupational H&S Management System (OHSMS) and ISO14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements
  • Follow all Magna Engineered Glass’ HSE policies and procedures
  • Use and wear the right personal protective equipment (PPE) and protective devices
  • Report absence or defect in any equipment or protective device to the Supervisor/Manager
  • Report any hazard, unsafe act or condition to the Supervisor/Manager
  • Attend/participate in all required training

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Manufacturing and warehouse setting.
  • Regular interaction with forklifts, tuggers, and other material handling equipment.
  • Required use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, safety shoes, gloves, hearing protection, and any additional PPE required by site policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Prolonged standing at least 8 hours, but up to 12 hours per day
  • Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds multiple times per hour.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Repetitive use of hands, including gripping, grasping, pinching, squeezing
  • Ability to handle large cardboard containers and packaging materials.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures consistent with a manufacturing environment.
