People Manager

THE ROLE
As one of the first members of the Talent & People team, the People Manager will have a chance to directly impact the growth of Outer by developing and supporting its most important asset - our team members. The People Manager will manage all aspects of people operations from onboarding to performance management to total rewards. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, this person will implement a wide range of initiatives designed to create an inclusive and high-performing workplace culture.
Given the stage of Outer and the ever-evolving business strategy and needs of the company, this role will change over time. New and exciting opportunities arise every day and we are looking for candidates who will embrace and be motivated by that flexibility.
The People Manager is expected to work out of our Santa Monica, CA office when it re-opens.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Own the Outer onboarding and new hire processes, working to create consistency of training and experience across all departments
- Coordinate with external partners such as benefits brokers, PEO systems, payroll providers, employment attorneys, and other advisors to execute an unparalleled employee experience
- Implement training, performance management, and goal setting initiatives in conjunction with department heads to create a culture of continuous improvement and learning
- Collaborate with the VP of Operations to develop and execute pulse surveys, employee recognition, and employee feedback initiatives
- Build out a baseline of People Operations metrics to measure success, improve retention, and align with business strategy
- Ensure legal compliance throughout appropriate documentation and tracking according to policy and legal requirements

- Compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment regulations
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- 3-5 years of People Operations experience, preferably in a high-growth environment or startup, and in a generalist role
- Experience owning and executing the entire new hire onboarding process
- Experience coordinating with benefits brokers, PEO systems, and employment attorneys
- Knowledge of Talent & People best practices, laws, and regulations; preferably experience working with employee immigration processes
- A high respect for confidentiality, ethics, and the ability to handle sensitive information
SKILLS, REQUIREMENTS, & ABILITIES
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to onboard a high volume of candidates in a fast-growth environment
- Attention to detail as demonstrated through accurate and thorough employee documentation as well as the creation of SOPs for the Talent & People function
- Passion for creating an inclusive workplace culture with a foundation of belonging and psychological safety
- A high level of professionalism
