Position Summary:

The People and Operations Director (POD) functions as the accountable operations and business manager for the DV North America region serving as the "right hand" to the DV North America Region Lead and Leadership Teams. The person in this role will be expected to contribute to the enhanced performance of BCG Digital Ventures – by acting as a thought partner on direction and performance of the business, particularly as this relates to people and operational matters.

 

Together with the North America ledership team, this individual will define and execute the overall strategy and operational management of all the North American business support functions to achieve the growth, utilization and profitability targets as agreed upon with the DV Executive Committee and Board. He/she will be expected to continually assess the staffing and resource needs to support the strategic and business goals of DV North America. He/She will contiuously work with with Global DV to refine and adjust planning parameters and enable the overall business strategy and success. The areas of responsilbility include Commercial support, Finance & Accounting, Information Technology, Talent Acquistion, Learning & Organization Development, Human Resources, Production, Administrative Services and Office Services.

 

The People and Operations Director works with their local team to set the full employee life cycle for DV North America, in alignment with DV’s global talent strategy and ongoing initiatives initiatives. He/she will also be expected to liaise between DV and the broader BCG organization – both globally but particularly in the US. The person in this role will be an integrated member of the DV global People & Operations Leadership team. This role will directly report to DV’s global COO and works closely with the North America Region Lead.

Responsibilities - As a core member of the North America management team, this person will be responsible for deciding on and coordinating activities related to the management of the North America business and how we achieve our goals through the development and deployment of staff and resources, as well as driving excellence in the North America Operations. Specific responsibilities include: 

1.Play a role as a Core member of North America Leadership team:

  • Together with Region Lead develop annual and 3 year strategic plan for the North America region in alignment with DV’s global strategic objectives, setting targets for revenue, headcount, billability and target profitability
  • Represent North America in Global DV People & Operations team
  • Principle liaison between DV US and BCG North America on Operations matters
  • Co-chair key North America governance meetings including regular Commercial planning, Operating Committees, US Partner/VP and People planning meetings
  • Oversee and lead regional and other North America initiatives directly related to the operations, people and financial performance of the US, such as reviewing compensation and billing rates, North America specific real estate portfolio management and others
  • Monitor DV’s ventures and engage as needed on employee, resource or other issues as needed

2. Coordinate with DV Global Finance Function to ensure coordinated planning and reporting processes and optimize profitability & growth for the region

  • Coordinate and input into the preparation of annual plan and re-estimates; iterate with Global finance to ensure overall KPIs and metrics are being met
  • Proactively determine the impact of year-to-date variances on the annual plan and recommend actions to North American Region Lead and COO/EC
  • Team with local finance team to manage an effective pipeline and backlog process to enhance revenue planning and forecasting
  • Work with cohort leaders to ensure strategic workforce planning that appropriately balances pyramid planning, with the development of the organizational capabilities and the achievement of the regional financial goals
  • Drive alignment and coordinaton across Recruiting, HR and other talent operations to ensure hiring and attrition of staff is managed in alignment with commercial demand in order to achieve financial and strategic objectives
  • Provide guidance and counsel for cost management. Manage discretionary budget decisions and communication. Responsible for implementing DV Global and BCG Regional actions to optimise cost structure
  • Monitor capital expenditure budgets 

3. Lead North America Operations team:

  • Act as the senior line manager to all North America Venture Operations staff (60+ team members) across Commercial support, Talent Acqusition, Learning & Organizational Development, Human Resources, Production, Administrative and Office Serivces, with Finance, Marketing and IT having dual reporting to the global leaders. Direct line manager for 10+ reports, predominantly function heads and individual contributors
  • Ensure Operations are set up to support delivery and quality of North America DV ventures 
  • Define objectives, identify and coach direct reports and team members to improve individual development areas 
  • Coach department leaders to set and achieve organizational goals and KPIs that align with the regional and global strategic objectives. 
  • Ensure reliable and appropriate technology infrastructure including the protection of the highly sensitive client data held by DV. Ensure DV North America is in compliance and adheres at all times to client requirements
  • Own Office Services topics – short and long-term space planning, build outs, refurbishments, office moves, space optimization, costs and services delivery.
  • Instil strong service and continuous improvement orientation, across all Venture Operations functions
  • Foster a stimulating work environment for all Venture Operations staff, i.e. personal development, people engagement, performance managent and compensation
  • Oversee and implement strong Risk Management processes to identify and mitigate any Legal, Finance, Compliance, Security and IT risks in alignment within DV, BCG and Legal norms and guidelines 

4. Accountable for end-to-end people experience across North America region:

  • Coordinate with the Global Talent Operations team to ensure the delivery of the appropriate Personal Growth Planning process, development and mentoring programs and opportunities
  • Manage compensation framework and processes to attract required talent, in line with global policies and operating model, while ensuring tight linkages to commercial pricing and DV and BCG Global policies
  • Develop and roll out regional people and talent policies and processes (hiring, onboarding, compensation, training, employee relations, career development, benefits administration) in alignment with DV’s employee value proposition to attract, develop and retain the talent that DV needs to achieve its strategic objectives
  • Monitor people engagement and spearhead coordinated initiatives to improve the people experience

5. Support DV Partners in Market and Client Planning activities:

  • Support "seat at the table" and other business community activities as needed
  • Ensure appropriate support to client planning processes
  • Develop and oversee related activities including ad hoc analyses, pricing analysis and client relationship management as needed

Requirements: - We expect that the person in this role will possess both the technical qualifications for the role as well as other intangible attributes.

  • 10 or more years of line management experience in operations, having led organizations of 50 or more people, preferably across multiple locations, and having had P&L responsibility 
  • A demonstrated understanding of and experience managing a wide cross section of business operations (e.g., finance, HR, talent acquisition, L&D, IT, Real Estate, etc) and an appreciation for how to prioritise among demands and balance the levers that make a complex business run smoothly and productively. 
  • Experience working in a corporate matrixed environment that is recognised for having best-in-class approaches to operational excellence and talent management
  • Work experience should be from the technology sector, digital eco system or professional services
  • Experience managing and advising senior level executives
  • Undergraduate degree required; MBA or other professional degree preferred. 
  • Some global travel will be required particularly to other DV Center locations and ability to participate in global meetings that will be outside of normal local working hours.

  • Flexible and comfortable with ambiguity. Open to new and innovative ideas and to change and bias towards continuouse improvement
  • An outstanding, confident communicator. Articulate and strong at influencing multiple stakeholders to adopt an aligned point of view
