Director, Global Compensation
Job Summary
The Director, Global Compensation oversees the planning, implementation, and management of BlackLine’s compensation program, including base pay, corporate bonus, and long-term incentive programs globally. Reporting to the VP, Global Total Rewards, this position will provide high-level expertise and strategic leadership in scaling the program as the organization grows. S(he) provides updates on market trends, best practices, and pending legislation and regulatory requirements that impact compensation practices and policies globally for the company. Ensures BlackLine’s compensation program supports a high-performance culture and aligns to the organization’s people strategies.
Roles and Responsibility (list in order of importance)
- Provide strategic and operational leadership in the development, implementation, administration, budgeting, and communication of BlackLine’s compensation program.
- Be a sponsor, strategic partner, and thought leader for compensation globally by utilizing data insights to make decisions, applying deep subject matter expertise and by staying on top of best practices, benchmarks, and the latest compensation approaches
- Assess business needs and impact of existing and new compensation programs and perform financial modeling and analysis to determine the impact of design changes on compensation programs and company financials
- Direct the global annual compensation planning process for base salary increases and annual short and long-term incentives, including determining regional budgets
- Partner with VP, Global Total Rewards, VP, Human Resources, and HR Strategic Partners (HRSPs) to interpret and leverage the compensation program to meet organizational objectives.
- Direct the proper evaluation and placement of jobs in the organizational structure
- Lead and work closely with (HRSPs) on the annual compensation review process for merit, annual bonus plans, and long-term incentive programs.
- Direct the maintenance of internal benchmarks, ranges, and structures that are market competitive and consistent with internal pay practices.
- Support M&A due diligence, resource planning and integration activities for the compensation function.
- Work with the People Success organization and other internal partners to ensure compliance with reporting and global, federal, state, and local requirements.
- Partner with the VP to support executive compensation programs
- In partnership with VP, develop presentations, proposals, and materials for Executive Management and the Compensation Committee
- Oversee periodic equal pay analysis to ensure internal equity
- Provide thoughtful leadership and growth opportunities to direct reports
- Develop a high performing team that works collaboratively across the global organization
Required Qualifications
Years of Experience in Related Field: 10 + years of experience focused on developing and scaling compensation programs globally and 3+ years of leading compensation teams
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, HR, Finance or a related field
Technical/Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Deep experience with broad based, equity, executive, and short and long-term compensation.
- Expert knowledge and experience developing compensation strategy for a publicly traded company
- Proven ability to build, develop, and scale compensation programs globally
- Strong knowledge of laws and government regulations affecting compensation programs
- Demonstrated ability to develop and present thoughtful financial models and analysis
- Ability to develop strong relationships with key stakeholders in a fast-paced business environment
- Track record of translating vision into executable strategy with a strong bias for action
- Excellent business acumen
- Strong stakeholder management, communication and change management skills.
- Advanced excel and HR systems skills and experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, detail orientation and accuracy
- Highly adaptable, able to work effectively in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
- Comfortable rolling up your sleeves in a hands-on work environment
