ASSET BASED LENDING EXAMINER



WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?



Examines the books and records of existing and prospective commercial borrowers. Ascertains the reliability and abundance of audit trails, as well as relevance of current financial reporting systems. Assesses the collateral quality.

As a member of City National’s Commercial Banking group, you will help to provide expertise and financing solutions to mid-market businesses and organizations with professional management, headquartered in the United States. By listening and understanding the client’s needs, the team delivers specialized service and industry-specific expertise to help solve challenges for companies that are growing.



WHAT WILL YOU DO?



  • Performs all applicable collateral examination approaches/procedures that are set forth in the following audit templates:
  • Comprehensive Ongoing Collateral Examination (for existing accounts)
  • Abridged Ongoing Collateral Examination (for existing accounts)
  • Comprehensive Collateral Survey (for prospective borrowers)
  • Abridged Collateral Survey (for prospective borrowers)
  • Conducts expanded tests or additional examination procedures as dictated by circumstances or requested by the lending unit to ensure that the Bank's risks are identified accordingly.
  • Verifies the propriety and validity of underlying documents supporting the changes to the collateral.
  • Verifies the existence and valuation of the reported collateral and summarizes the findings and pertinent statistics relating to such collateral.
  • Validates the conformity of financial reports to GAAP and to balances in the general ledgers.
  • Obtains explanations of major variances or changes in each general ledger control account.
  • Evaluates the adequacy of all valuation accounts.
  • Reviews the cash, liabilities and any clearing accounts for fraud and unusual transactions/events that would impair the value of the collateral and that would have a negative impact on the ability of the borrower or prospective borrower to continue.
  • Ascertains that all tax obligations are adequately accrued in the books and paid on time to preserve the lender's first priority lien position on the collateral.
  • Observes any physical changes in the operating activities of the borrower that are not otherwise obvious in the financial statements.
  • Prioritizes time and tasks to complete work within reasonable timeframes.
  • Maintains a proactive commitment to established Bank programs, such as CustomerFirst, Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and Equal Employment Opportunity.
  • Complies fully with all Bank Operational and Credit policies and procedures as well as all regulatory requirements (e.g. Bank Secrecy Act, Know Your Client, Community Reinvestment Act, Fair Lending Practices, Code of Conduct, etc.).
  • Completes all required training.



WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED


Must-Have*

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Related field
  • One to five years’ experience in ABL or commercial lending


Skills and Knowledge

  • Must be proficient in Windows XP, Excel, Word and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Proficiency in Asset Reader and Monarch software programs preferred.
  • Good verbal/written communication skills
  • Ability to interact in an effective and professional manner with other bank officers and relationship managers, as well as the staff of the borrower or prospective borrower.
  • A CPA certification is preferred
