We’re Looking For A: Director, Video Production
Location: Hybrid (Woodland Hills, CA)
What You’ll Be Doing: The Director of Production on the Ad Creative Team at Golden Hippo will provide strategic, operational, and creative leadership across all core technical functions of the department.
- Team Leadership & People Management: Provide direct oversight and performance management for the Camera, Post-Production/Asset Management, Full-Time Editor, and Shooter-Editor groups. Mentor team leads, conduct reviews, interview and recruit new A-level players, set expectations, and cultivate a culture of accountability, growth, craft excellence, and high engagement
- Operational Oversight: Ensure all post-production operations run smoothly and efficiently, from pre-production planning through final delivery. Anticipate operational needs, remover roadblocks, and continually refine systems to support scalable, streamlined workflows
- Strategic Development: Lead strategic initiatives that elevate technical capabilities, cross-department communication, and overall team performance. Identify opportunities for innovation in shooting, editing, asset management, and project workflows to meet evolving business and marketing needs
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Story Producers, Creative Coaches to ensure alignment on creative priorities, resource planning, timelines, and deliverables. Serve as the central operational bridge connecting creative vision with technical execution.
- Performance Quality Assurance: Maintain oversight of quality across all stages of post-production. Provide guidance on create standards, troubleshoot performance issues, and ensure final deliverables meet the high bar of Golden Hippo's brand and marketing objectives
- Resource & Pipeline Management: Work with team leads to assign projects, monitor bandwidth, and ensure the right talent is aligned to the right creative needs. Oversee the structure and evolution of the production pipeline, including shoot logistics, footage handling, asset organization, and editorial workflows
- Process Optimization: Continuously assess and improve operational systems, communication channels, documentation, and technology solutions to increase efficiency, clarity, and team-wide cohesion
- Culture & Engagement: Uphold and model Golden Hippo's values, promoting a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture. Ensure psychological safety, clear communication, and a healthy working environment across all team functions
Qualifications (Note: We strongly encourage you to apply even if you don’t tick ALL of these boxes.):
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of experience in production, post-production, or related operational leadership within digital advertising, branded content, television, or film
- Demonstrated success managing multiple teams or disciplines with the ability to inspire, develop, and hold accountable a diverse group of creative and technical contributors
- Strong understanding of production workflows, camera departments, post-production processes, asset management, shoot logistics, and editing pipelines. Experience with modern editing platforms, file management systems, and creative operations tools are highly beneficial.
- Ability to operate at both the tactical and strategic levels - balancing daily operational demands with long-term planning and cross-team development
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Able to collaborate with senior leadership, producers, and technical teams with clarity, diplomacy, and foresight
- Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Human Studies, or related field (preferred)

The base salary range is $121,000 - $161,500, plus annual & monthly KPI bonus potential.
