The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Director of BU Finance to lead finance partnership across all of Superhuman’s business units: Mail, Docs, Go, and Agents. You’ll work with business unit leaders to translate their strategies into financial plans, evaluate growth and investment opportunities, and guide resource decisions.

You’ll lead and develop the BU Finance team, building consistent planning and performance practices across the business units while ensuring each team gets finance support tailored to its needs. You’ll connect BU plans and results to the company outlook and help leaders act on the opportunities, risks, and trade-offs shaping the business.

  • Partner with BU leaders to translate business strategy into financial plans, ensuring investments, staffing, and operating priorities align with BU goals and company targets.

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning across the business units, including personnel, vendor, and investment assumptions.

  • Oversee Product P&L narratives and key metrics across the business units, connecting BU plans and results to the company outlook.

  • Lead monthly and quarterly business reviews, explaining performance against plan and forecast, assessing strategic initiatives, surfacing risks and opportunities, and recommending actions.

  • Guide evaluation of new products, launches, and growth initiatives from concept through post-launch review, including market opportunity, adoption, revenue potential, costs, and expected returns.

  • Lead scenario analysis and investment evaluations across Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Partnerships, channels, and customer segments to help leaders make resource trade-offs.

  • Partner with GTM Finance, Functional Finance, and Corporate Finance to align revenue assumptions, resource plans, financial definitions, and business unit impacts.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of four, setting priorities and ownership, assigning BU coverage, and establishing consistent standards for analysis and business partnership.

  • Use AI and automation to improve research, analysis, model review, scenario development, and team workflows, validating outputs with sound judgment.

Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in strategic finance, investment banking, consulting, or a related field, including significant experience partnering with business leaders.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Math, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

  • Experience leading, coaching, and developing finance professionals, including managers or senior individual contributors.

  • A track record of influencing senior leaders, building alignment across functions, and helping teams make decisions in ambiguous or rapidly changing environments.

  • Strong financial judgment and advanced modeling skills, including experience with product economics, revenue forecasting, scenario analysis, and investment evaluation.

  • Able to set direction for a team, prioritize across competing needs, and drive complex workstreams to completion in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience working with complex models and large datasets; SQL, Python, or R experience preferred.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
