About the Team

Strategic Finance enables Mixpanel’s ongoing financial success. Our financial success depends on the visibility this team creates by running and constantly improving tight financial reporting processes. It depends on using these processes coupled with analytical prowess and strong communication skills to deliver keen insights upon which strategic decisions will be made. It depends on identifying key trends to support these decisions with constantly improving financial models. Through this, Strategic Finance guides the company through financial hurdles, fuels growth opportunities, and ultimately drives long-term success.

About the Role

As the Director of FP&A/Strategic Finance you will act as financial partner to cross-functional leadership. Strategic Finance is responsible for our FP&A and Sales Finance & Compensation teams. In this role, you will have the opportunity to build and strengthen a high performing team, ensuring they are capable of supporting the company's strategic objectives around business growth and corporate goals. You and your highly performant team will guide the company through strategic planning and budgeting. Your well crafted plans—developed through a deep understanding of operating metrics, and their impact on forecasted outcomes—will help Mixpanel achieve our long term financial aims. 

Responsibilities

  • Central owner for Forecasting and Budgeting: Implement enhanced forecasting and budgeting processes to provide accurate and timely financial projections.
  • Provide accurate reporting that creates actionable Insights and analysis to support decision-making processes
  • Drive continuous improvement through standard operating cadences
  • Create regulatory compliance standards and guidelines, ensuring all FPA practices and reports comply
  • Lead and develop strategies to increase financial transparency and efficiency through improved internal controls and clear financial disclosure
  • Perform both strategic and tactical responsibilities – including acting as the strategic lead on high-impact projects
  • Strong prioritization abilities to advise and support the finance team in time management, and decision-making (i.e., ensure data and information are analyzed, prepared, accurate) 
  • Collaborate with all parts of the company to design and execute strategic initiatives
  • Drive ongoing change management and execution of global strategic priorities 

We're Looking for Someone Who Has

  • 8-10+ years of progressive experience in FP&A or Strategic Finance, with a significant portion in the SaaS industry.
  • Demonstrated success in leading FP&A functions within high-growth environments.
  • High Competence in managing high-performing teams, setting expectations, and holding stakeholders accountable
  • Experience with both operational FP&A (budgeting, forecasting, reporting) and strategic FP&A (long-range planning, M&A support, investor relations).
  • Familiarity with SaaS business models, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and subscription-based finance. Deep understanding of key SaaS metrics
  • Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, including forecasting, scenario analysis, and valuation.
  • Expertise in using financial planning and analysis software (e.g., Anaplan, Adaptive Insights, Planful).
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Strong project management experience with demonstrated ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks and work within deadlines
  • Track-record of collaborating with cross-functional partners to lead transformation and growth
  • Highly motivated, innate intellectual curiosity, and a strong desire to drive impact

Bonus Points for

  • MBA or relevant professional certification (e.g., CFA, CPA) is highly preferred. 
  • Experience designing and implementing scalable financial processes and systems to support rapid growth.
  • Experience supporting fundraising activities (e.g., due diligence, financial modeling, investor presentations) a plus
  • Experience with financial due diligence, fundraising, supporting M&A, post merger
  • Demonstrable passion for the data analytics industry
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity

Compensation

The amount listed below is the total target cash compensation (TTCC) and includes base compensation and variable compensation in the form of either a company bonus or commissions. Variable compensation type is determined by your role and level. In addition to the cash compensation provided, this position is also eligible for equity consideration and other benefits including medical, vision, and dental insurance coverage. You can view our benefits offerings here.
Our salary ranges are determined by role and level and are benchmarked to the SF Bay Area Technology data cut released by Radford, a global compensation database. The range displayed represents the minimum and maximum TTCC for new hire salaries for the position across all of our US locations. To stay on top of market conditions, we refresh our salary ranges twice a year so these ranges may change in the future. Within the range, individual pay is determined by experience, job-related skills, qualifications, and other factors. If you have questions about the specific range, your recruiter can share this information.
