About The Role

WEKA is seeking a Director, Brand and Creative to set the creative direction for how WEKA shows up in the world, build the AI-enabled production system that ships the work, and make it easy for every team at WEKA to create on-brand work themselves. This is a player-coach role for a leader who pairs craft with operational rigor. You will set the creative bar and personally do the work; you will build the AI-first workflows and pipelines that keep a high volume of on-brand creative moving at launch tempo without you in every review; and you will equip teams far beyond your own to create at quality.

In this role, you will:

  • Own the development of WEKA's visual identity, design language, and brand system across every surface: web, video, campaigns, events, product launches, social, and executive moments.
  • Concept, direct, and personally produce brand films, campaign creative, and launch assets, from brief to final delivery.
  • Build and run the creative production engine: intake, prioritization, sequencing, and tiered review workflows that let templated, high-volume work ship fast while channeling your team’s creative energy upstream, ensuring Tier 1 work gets focused attention.
  • Design and deploy AI-enabled production workflows across design, video, and content adaptation, enabling the team to ship quickly, consistently, and predictably.
  • Lead, coach, and develop an in-house creative team, and direct agency and freelance partners as an extension of your team, while staying hands-on in the work yourself.
  • Enable the whole company to create: build brand-locked templates, self-serve tooling, training, and guardrails that let teams across WEKA produce on-brand work at quality, without a creative bottleneck.
  • Measure the machine: track creative throughput, cycle time, and on-time launch delivery, and use the data to continuously improve the system.
  • Partner with marketing leadership to translate corporate narrative and campaign strategy into distinctive, high-craft creative.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in brand, design, or creative leadership experience working at or with technology companies, including 5+ years leading in-house creative teams.
  • A portfolio that shows both range and hands: work that you’ve directed and work that you personally made, spanning identity systems, video, campaign creative, and digital.
  • Demonstrated experience building creative operations and sequencing production workflows at scale: intake models, tiered review and governance, production pipelines, self-serve enablement systems, and resourcing across in-house teams, agencies, and freelance networks.
  • Hands-on fluency in AI-assisted design, video, and production tooling: you’ve built AI-enabled workflows that measurably increased creative throughput without diluting craft.
  • Demonstrated success as a player-coach: you can name the last thing you directed your team to create and something you personally shipped recently.
  • Experience in enterprise tech, infrastructure, or a comparably technical category; you make complex things feel inevitable, not complicated.
  • Motion design and video production depth beyond directing agency vendors.
  • The judgment to know when good enough ships and when it absolutely does not.

Good to Have

  • A combination of agency and in-house experience.
  • Experience leading a brand or category repositioning at full operating speed.
  • Experience establishing brand governance and skills for AI-generated content.
  • Startup-to-scale experience; you have built creative functions, not just inherited them.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
