Own the Databricks enterprise data warehouse and BI solution, designing data models, ETL/ELT pipelines, stored procedures, semantic layers, and governed analytics. Lead healthcare data initiatives supporting value-based care metrics such as HCC, HEDIS, Stars, utilization, MLR, and capitation. Serve as BI product owner, manage roadmap and agile delivery, enforce data quality and HIPAA-aligned controls, and lead a small team while remaining hands-on.

At Salud Healthcare, we are transforming how value-based care is delivered by empowering clinical and operational teams with data-driven insights. As a growing MSO, we serve provider groups, supporting better patient outcomes through smart infrastructure, modern technology, and people-first innovation.
We are seeking a hands-on Director of BI & Data Engineering to own the Salud Enterprise Datawarehouse (EDW) on Databricks and the BI solution that sits on top of it. This is a player / coach role: you will personally design and build permanent EDW tables, data models, ETL, and stored procedures, while leading a small team through a disciplined agile delivery process.

Key Responsibilities:

EDW Permanent Table Development (Databricks)

  • Design, build, and own the permanent tables of the Databricks EDW — dimensional and normalized data models across the Bronze / Silver / Gold medallion layers and curated data marts.

  • Develop and maintain production ETL / ELT pipelines and stored procedures (SQL, Spark / PySpark), and set standards for ingestion from payer, claims, clinical, and Salesforce sources.

  • Govern the platform through Delta and Unity Catalog: lineage, access, performance tuning, and per-workload cost management on Azure and Databricks.

  • Put data-quality gates in place — freshness, completeness, and reconciliation checks — so upstream disruptions never propagate downstream, and failures are loud and traceable.

Product Owner, Semantic Layer & BI Solution

  • Serve as product owner of Salud’s BI solution: own the vision, roadmap, prioritized backlog, requirements, and user acceptance.

  • Build and govern the semantic / metrics layer — including Databricks-native semantic capabilities — as the single source of truth for business metrics, so every consumer sees the same numbers.

  • Lead development on an enterprise BI platform (e.g., Looker, Omni, MicroStrategy): governed, reusable models and the dashboards leadership and operations run the business on.

  • Partner with clinical, operations, finance, and growth stakeholders to translate business questions into data products, and drive adoption across the organization.

Healthcare & Value-Based Care Data

  • Bring deep working knowledge of healthcare data — payer, claims, eligibility, membership, and clinical — and model it to support value-based care performance.

  • Deliver the analytics that matter in Medicare Advantage and value-based arrangements: HCC / risk adjustment, HEDIS / Stars quality, utilization, MLR, and capitation.

  • Enforce HIPAA-aligned controls across the data estate: least-privilege access, private networking, encryption, audit logging, and access review.

Team Leadership & Agile Delivery (Player / Coach)

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a small team of data engineers and BI developers, and direct offshore engineering resources; build hiring pipelines and lead interview loops.

  • Run a 2-week sprint cadence (JIRA, GitHub, Confluence): requirements defined and frozen per sprint, backlog grooming, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.

  • Set engineering standards — PR review, tests that assert effect, CI/CD, and dev / QA / prod parity — and champion AI-assisted development (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) under human review.

  • Stay hands-on: contribute code, models, and reviews alongside the team while protecting focus with a single, prioritized roadmap.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years in data warehousing, data engineering, and business intelligence, including 3+ years leading teams.

  • Strong, hands-on experience building enterprise data warehouse permanent tables: data modeling (dimensional and normalized), ETL / ELT development, and stored procedures; expert SQL.

  • Hands-on Databricks experience — lakehouse, Delta, Unity Catalog, SQL warehouses — including semantic layer development.

  • Proven experience with an enterprise BI and semantic modeling platform such as Looker (LookML), Omni, or MicroStrategy.

  • Experience acting as product owner for a BI or data platform: roadmap, backlog, requirements, and stakeholder adoption.

  • Healthcare industry experience is REQUIRED — payer, claims, eligibility, and clinical data and its sensitivity (HIPAA, HITECH, PHI, BAAs). Value-based care experience strongly preferred.

  • Proven ability to lead a team through agile processes — sprints, code review, testing, and CI/CD — while remaining a hands-on contributor.

  • Excellent communication with executives and business users; you translate between the two.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data/Information Systems, Statistics, or related field required; Master’s preferred but not required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience at a healthcare MSO, IPA, ACO, or other value-based-care organization.

  • Medicare Advantage specifics: HEDIS, HCC / risk adjustment, MMR, eligibility, and claims (X12 837/835/834/270/271).

  • dbt, Airflow / Astronomer, or comparable data-platform tooling; Azure cloud data services.

  • Salesforce data pipelines; FinOps / cloud cost management.

  • Experience leading distributed or offshore teams across time zones.

Compensation & Benefits:
  • Salary range: $165,000–$195,000

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance

  • 401(k).

  • Paid time off and company holidays.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, ethnicity, sex, age, national origin, citizenship status, disability, marital status, partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, military or veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
