A New Paradigm For Space Operations.

Who We Are:

Space Kinetic is a dual use space technology startup building a completely new architecture for space operations – one that brings the advantages of proliferated drone technology (low-cost, operationally flexible, attainable, distributed) to space missions while reducing the ecosystem's reliance on consumable fuel. In a world where many companies are focused on incrementally improving the status quo,  we are focused on creating something entirely different – an architecture underpinned by new first principles to meet the opportunities and challenges of the third space age head-on.  Our goal is to move away from one-to-one space architectures – where each satellite in a constellation has one (or a small # of) primary payloads attached to the bus -- and unlock a ‘one-to-many’ system, where each satellite has a large number of payloads which can be deployed from their host spacecraft at high velocities without firing a thruster.

This is not a role for someone looking for a traditional 40-hour work week. Space Kinetic is building ambitious, first-of-its-kind technology, and that requires urgency, ownership, and a high level of commitment to changing the foundational assumptions for everything we do in space.

What You’ll Do:

We are seeking an experienced Setup CNC Machinist / Operator to support multi-axis machining in a fast-paced prototype and production environment. This hands-on role is ideal for a machinist who enjoys producing complex, tight-tolerance parts and collaborating directly with engineering teams.

  • Perform complete machine setups, including tooling, offsets, workholding, and prove-outs.
  • Machine complex, tight-tolerance aerospace components from a variety of materials.
  • Interpret blueprints, GD&T, models, and work instructions to complete machining operations.
  • Perform drilling, tapping, milling, turning, finishing, and deburring for prototype and short-run production parts.
  • Inspect parts during machining to maintain quality and tolerance requirements.
  • Collaborate with programmers and engineers to troubleshoot issues and improve machining processes and efficiency.
  • Maintain machines and work areas through chip management, basic preventative care, and safe shop practices.

What It Takes:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of CNC machining setup and operation experience.
  • Experience setting up and operating multi-axis CNC mills and/or lathes.
  • Strong blueprint-reading and shop math skills.

  • Experience with five-axis machining and/or mill-turn equipment.
  • Prototype or short-run machining experience.
  • Experience editing and troubleshooting G-code.
  • Experience with Mastercam or another CAM platform.
  • Experience machining materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium.
  • Strong understanding of tooling, feeds and speeds, and workholding.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-moving shop environment.

Physical & Work Environment:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs unassisted

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
