The CMO will define and drive growth strategies for a premium menswear rental subscription brand, focusing on member acquisition, brand positioning, retention marketing, and agency oversight, to transition from a niche brand to a market leader.
The summary above was generated by AI

We're a premium menswear rental subscription with strong member traction and a clear growth mandate. We need someone who has taken a subscription brand from solid footing to a breakout revenue milestone.

  • Stage: Proven, Scaling
  • Commitment: 10-15 hrs/wk
  • Comp Structure: Cash + equity

The Opportunity

Rent with Thred has traction, paying members, strong retention, and a premium brand that hasn't needed a big marketing budget to prove itself. We liked the idea of quiet luxury, something insiders know about and share with their friends.

But now we need the kind of growth that takes us from well-kept secret to category leader. This role exists to define how Rent with Thred grows.

What you'll own

  • A growth strategy with a real number attached to it, and the accountability to match
  • Member acquisition across multiple channels
  • Brand positioning that keeps the quiet luxury feel intact while making the brand loud enough to matter
  • Retention and lifecycle marketing, turning a strong member base into something that compounds
  • PR and earned media in menswear, lifestyle, and sustainability, the kind of coverage that makes people feel like they discovered us
  • Oversight of agencies or contractors as the budget grows with the business

What we're looking for

  • A track record of driving significant ARR growth at a DTC or subscription brand, ideally through a comparable inflection point
  • Someone who has owned a number, not just a channel
  • Smart with lean budgets. We've never needed to buy our way to growth and we'd like to keep that streak alive
  • Premium brand instincts. You know the difference between luxury and expensive, and you'd never chase volume at the cost of the brand
  • Fashion, menswear, or lifestyle experience is a genuine plus, though the right instincts matter more than the exact category
  • Comfortable working directly with a founder. High trust, high expectations, low bureaucracy

Why us, why now?

  • The product, revenue, brand, etc... groundwork is done
  • The right CMO shapes how this brand reads to a retail acquirer and participates in that outcome through equity
  • A parallel B2B play in fashion intelligence is already in motion, built on our rental behavior data, so there's more to this story than one brand

We're a small, focused team. This role suits someone who wants to own a growth outcome and leave a mark on a brand that people actually love wearing.

Tell us about a growth moment you're proud of. Send it to [email protected]

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
