The Assistant Art Director at Lulus is a key player in our studio team, tasked with overseeing the art direction of e-commerce product detail page (PDP) images and videos within our dynamic studio. This role is both hands-on and strategic, requiring the successful candidate to be actively involved on set daily in-studio, directing multiple shoots across a high-volume e-commerce environment. This role will be hands-on, at times, managing photo shoots, and hands-off at other times, making selects, providing creative feedback, working with style guides and pushing to improve our creative output. 

The Assistant Art Director ensures that all visual content aligns with the Lulus style and meets our brand standards, from concept to completion. With a good understanding of women's fashion, this role works closely with stylists and photographers to meet ambitious production goals while always delivering high quality imagery and video. 

Schedule: This is an onsite position based out of our Los Angeles office. The role follows a Monday through Friday schedule during approximately 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM business hours.

What You’ll Do

  • Actively participate in and oversee the art direction on multiple Ecom sets, ensuring each project aligns with the Lulus aesthetic and quality standards while hitting production goals

  • Select and crop images for all studio ecom shoots using studio production software (Creative Force) 

  • Collaborate with the Art Director to ensure established brand guidelines and best practices to are consistently executed across all channels 

  • Participate in pre-shoot production that may include casting, styling reviews, merchant meetings, and creation of training materials for other creative team members

  • Regularly hindsight shoot results and share feedback with studio leadership

  • Work closely with stylists and photographers to enhance creative visions and realize ambitious production goals, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation

  • Maintain a strong understanding of the Lulus brand and women's fashion trends to ensure all visual content is on-brand and resonates with our target audience

  • Regularly review, update, and improve Lulus style guides for all product categories 

  • Maintain an organized and streamlined approach to image files and all deliverables

  • Work with buyers, merchandisers, and creative leads to ensure alignment around changes to creative approaches (style guides and or creative changes) 

  • Stay informed of industry trends and make recommendations 

  • Develop and implement a regular review process to share wins, opportunities, and creative direction for styling and photo teams 


What You’ll Need

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in the creative industry

  • 3+ years of in-studio/on-set experience 

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Keynote/PPT for deck creation

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Google Suite

  • Extraordinary attention to detail and the ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to change

  • On-set shoot experience required; ability to make edits/selects and provide feedback and direction to teams

  • Demonstrated ability in art direction within a fast-paced e-commerce or fashion environment, with a portfolio 

  • A keen sense of style and an up-to-date knowledge of fashion trends, with the ability to apply this understanding to the Lulus brand

  • Ability to work effectively with a team of stylists, photographers, and other creatives, fostering an environment of creativity and productivity

  • Strong relationship-building skills; ability to work with a variety of people in various disciplines

  • Proven track record of organizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously in a high-volume setting, with a focus on efficiency and quality control

  • A blend of creative flair and practical skills, enabling you to oversee the creation of compelling visual content from start to finish, ensuring that potentially repetitive shoots are anything but that 

  • Proficiency in communicating direction for photography, lighting, and editing

  • Proficiency in making informed decisions on set and regarding post-production
