The Los Angeles tech sector is kicking off the new year with developments that are out of this world. SpaceX sent a craft into orbit carrying a substantial payload and companies back on Earth are bulking up with fresh funding. Read more of the latest tech news in the Built In LA Weekly Refresh.

LA companies secured ample capital in 2022. Despite a slower period for venture funding, the Los Angeles tech scene pulled through 2022 with billions in fresh capital. Fueling innovations across entertainment, healthcare, aerospace and more, SoCal tech companies gather a collective $6.8 billion in last year’s largest rounds. [Built In LA]

SpaceX launched Falcon 9. Last week, the spacecraft manufacturer launched 114 satellites into orbit using its Falcon 9 craft on a flight named Transporter-6. The mission was part of SpaceX’s rideshare program, and Falcon 9 carried the payloads of several California companies into space, including Launcher and Epic Aerospace. [TechCrunch]

Prodoscore raised fresh funding. Offering enterprises a solution to help keep track of their employee’s productivity, Prodoscore is expanding its software with a new round a growth capital from lead investor PSG. Machina Labs added new leadership. Machina Labs uses artificial intelligence and robotics to streamline the manufacturing industry. The company recently announced the addition of two new executives to further its work. Alex Huckstepp, formerly of ARRIS and Digital Alloys, joined the team as VP of sales, and Tragen’s Alexander Kwan is Machina’s new VP of operations. [Space Impulse]
